Visiting Capri and Sorrento in January
I'm going to be in Sorrento for about a week in late January. I'd love to go to Capri though I know most things will be closed. What's the best way to get there? And any recommendations on what to see?

Hi Jess - It's a very short crossing by ferry or hydrofoil.
The usual highlights are Capri town, Anacapri, Monte Solaro (- not sure if the lift runs in winter though :( ), Marina Piccola ... You might find this link helpful http://www.capri.net/ Steve |
Hi J,
Do be aware that the boat schedules are subject to weather conditions. ((I)) |
You might check out the Villa Jovis - a short walk from the town of Capri. Obviously the Blue Grotto may be unavailable due to high seas.

Were you thinking of staying overnight on Capri, jess, or were you planning on taking a day trip? I ask as in that you will be Sorrento in January I personally would play it be ear regarding Capri as I would want to see what the weather is like. The last time my late husband and I were in the Sorrento area which was in spring the storms got so bad that we cancelled our plans to go back to Capri and thankfully we did as it would have been impossible to get back to the mainland due to the heavy storm, the rough sea plus all the power went off on Capri. We were able to cancel our hotel reservation. So if you plan on reserving a room I would strongly urge you to check into the hotel's cancellation policy. But I hope the weather is beautiful and you can go to Capri!
