Visit to Copenhagen
 

I am a firefighter near Seattle Washington. Planning a 20th anniversary surprise trip for my wife and me to Copenhagen March 17 to April 1st (then on to Kilkenny Ireland).<BR><BR>Any suggestions for this offseason visit? Current plan is to stay at the Radison SAS Scandinavia ($94.00 a night) for four nights, and then make day trips into town and surrounding area.<BR><BR>I know that is not a hotel with a lot of character, but price seemed pretty good.<BR><BR>One big question is, how difficult will it be to get from the airport to the hotel. I imagine we take the train from the airport to town, but not sure how far the hotel is from the train station. I.e., can you walk with two small suitcases?<BR><BR>Thanks for any input.<BR><BR>MD

MD, you are from the beautiful city of Seattle so you don't need to travel! Seriously, the Radisson SAS Scandinavia is a tall, modernist building which some will like. It is east of the train station and you need to walk across one of the bridges.<BR><BR>I often walk instead of taking the bus. However, the walk is probably too far. My rough guess (and only a guess as I have not been to Copenhagen for 4 years) is that it is 3 km / 2 miles away. <BR><BR>If you want a fun place to stay, the Cab Inn Scandinavia is cheap and has small modular rooms. The beds fold down and the shower is one piece of plastic (I think). Kids may like that. You wife will either be amused or annoyed at your frugality.<BR><BR>You may consider taking the city bus. The airport has a website www.cph.dk . It looks like bus 2A passes the front of the hotel.

Sorry my message is confusing. The train station is a bit far from the hotel. You can confirm it with the bus driver.<BR><BR>The bus drivers that I met spoke very good English. If you are cautious, you could type the name of the hotel and address and show it to the bus driver. He/She can then respond by shaking their head.<BR><BR>Unlike in Japan, in Denmark &quot;yes&quot; means &quot;yes&quot; and &quot;no&quot; means &quot;no&quot; (just joking!)

I believe that in Danish schools, 4 years of English is a requirement... therefore, you will have little to no communications problems there.<BR><BR>For Kilkenny I have a recommendation... eat at Breathnachs, over the bridge from the castle! It's a restaurant over a club, the food is top notch! Try their sizzling steak with mushrooms... yum!!!<BR><BR>Also, a chinese restaurant just down the street from Kilkenny castle called Li's... very good food.

Copenhagen - 3 days in Aug 2001. Virtually everyone speaks English. We stayed past the Admiral (has web site) so no input on your hotel. Spoke with a number of Americans who stayed at hotels near Tivoli which were ok and less expensive. Getting from airport to hotel -- take a taxi. You can pay with credit car, not expensive &amp; our driver was a goldmine of info about the town &amp; its surroundings. <BR>Copenhagen is very walkable. We &quot;seniors&quot; walked from Little Mermaid, past Nyhaven to Tivoli and back, never took a bus &amp; only once a taxi since it was late when we left Tivoli and we were tired. <BR>Enjoy the pastry &amp; the town; none of Seattle's hills!

Dont take the train. The SAS has a bus that will deliver you to the Scandinavia. Although you are correct that the hotel is a business hotel, it is a wonderful place to stay. The lobby is alive almost around the clock. There's a casino there, a good sushi bar, a Thai restaruant downstairs, and the breakfast buffet is very good.<BR><BR>It's almost a mile from the trainstation that Hiroshi mentions to the hotel. You won't really want to walk. A cab from the airport will cost about $25. Having said that, I walked everywhere in Copenhagen, even in the rain and during the end of March, there will probably be plenty. <BR><BR>I will be in Copenhagen at the Scandinavia from the 7th until the 15th of March . . . I have spent several months over the last 10 years at that hotel. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Copenhagen.<BR><BR>Have fun!
