Visit Loch Ness or Loch Lomond?

My family will be in Edinburgh for 3 nights and 3 days at the end of this month. We are planning to do one day trip/tour. Which of the above tour would you recommend? What tour companies do you recommend as well? I'm looking at the Rabbies, Heart of Scotland tours or the Scotline tours. Thanks in advance.

Hi, we went on both tours with Rabbies. We enjoyed the Loch Lomond because of the beautiful scenery with all the bluebells along the hiking path there. I loved Stirling castle. It is very different than Edinburgh which of course is very impressive.
We loved the Highlands tour too. It is a long day so be prepared. Our tour guide this day was Donnie. If you can get him, do it. He's the walking history of Scotland and wears a kilt. This tour includes a boat tour on Loch Ness. Our captain was very interesting. Driving through Glen Coe was beautiful too. We liked that they use mini buses.

We went the end of May beg. of June in 2003. Have a spectacular time. The Scots are wonderful. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks Lauricelli. Would you recommend the Rabbies tour? Any experience with the other tour companies? We are planning to join a walking tour with the witchery, have you done this? Thanks again.

I would recommend the Rabbies tour, yes. Like I said, if you can get Donnie as your tour guide, get him.

I haven't done any other tours. Hopefully, someone else will pipe in about your other options. I believe there were some posts about this approx. 2 months ago.
We did not do the witchery tour. We didn't do any tours at night since my husband had twisted his ankle the week before our trip. By the end of our days he was beat. We did a lot of walking. Edinburgh is so cool. No matter what you do, I think you will have a great time.

If it's one or the other do Loch Lomond. Loch Ness is one heck of a long day trip. Not my idea of fun atall

We didn't take any tours, just poked around both areas ourselves. We loved the area around Loch Lomond.

We drove a long way to see Loch Ness and, honestly, thought it was an uninteresting hole in the ground filled with gray water. Of course, if we'd seen 'Nessie', that would have been different.

I vote for L. Lomond.

For scenery, Loch Ness is no better than thousands of other lochs, and it's a long drive to get there and back from Edinburgh in a day. Some of the places you drive through to get there could make the trip worthwhile. Loch Lomond is nearer, and day trips from Edinburgh to Loch Lomond will often include the Trossachs which would be a real bonus. If you can get a tour that takes in the quieter east side of Loch Lomond as well as the Trossachs, go for it. I'm lucky enough to be able to visit all these places from home so I don't know how the different tour operators match up.

Thanks again. Since I just have one choice for daytrips, I'll go Loch Lomond, The Trossaachs and Stirling Castle.
