Visit Forth Bridge

Dear Fodorites,

Though I have visited Edinburgh a few times before, I have never managed to see the Forth Bridge/Forth Rail Bridge before. I will be there for about a day in late April and plan to see the bridge this time around.

So my questions are:

- Which is the best place to be to take some great photos of the bridge and how do I get there using public transport?
- Any bus numbers, routes you can suggest?
- How far is it distance wise/public transport travel time wise to get there from close to Edinburgh Haymarket (I will be staying in a hotel close to this location)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
IS.

South Queensferry is a lovely little place (galleries etc) and is between the two bridges. There are 2 or 3 good pubs/ cafes which have interesting views to the bridges.

It is also one of the best places in the world to collect seaglass. People have got to have one strange habit and this is ours!

Not sure about public transport as we drive.

You could also take the train to North Queensferry which is a smaller village

You could walk across the Forth Road Bridge to South Queensferry and take either the bus back to Edinburgh or train from Dalmeny.

There's also a trip from central Edinburgh which gives you a boat ride on the Forth

I have gone by train to South Queensferry and as others say that is where you wanna go for your purposes. I remember also kind of a quaint Victorian riverside though it was long ago so not sure of that no more.

The station for South Queensferry is Dalmeny which has frequent trains from Edinburgh and Haymarket. There is a path with steps down to the promenade and pier. It's a steep walk back up to the station.
There are two boats offering cruises under the bridges, the MAID OF THE FORTH (www.maidoftheforth.co.uk) and FORTH BELLE (www.forthboattours.com). For the FORTH BELLE, there is a connecting bus from Edinburgh (Waverley station).
