Visa requirements for Bernina Express

I am planning to travel to Italy in May and take the Bernina Express train. I will be getting a Schegen visa from the Italian embassy. Do I need to get a separate visa for Switzerland? Will I be needing a multiple entry visa for Italy?

I am sorry this is not really an answer to your question, but why ask a travel forum a question best put to the Swiss Embassy in your own country?

I would suggedst that having a Schengen visa for Italy is enough, but I am no expert.

If you need a visa to travel to the Schengen area, the visa you get from the first country you enter gives you permission to enter all other Schengen countries - which includes Switzerland.

If you don't intend leaving the Schengen area during your stay (for example, by going to Croatia, the UK or Romania) you shouldn't need a multiple entry visa: you'll only be crossing the border between the Schengen area and the outside world once.

Thank you for your replies on visa requirements. I am looking forward to joining the Bernina Express this summer.

Schengen visa requirement, for those who need it (many nationalities can travel to Schengen visa-free for up to 90 days), is that you apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (i.e. staying the longest). But if your stay in several Schengen states is of equal length, you apply to the country you arrive first. Once issued, your visa is valid for the whole of the Schengen area (that includes both Switzerland and Italy).
