Also there is a well known poster on here and ST who lived in France one year and had her child in school in rural France during that time. They tried to get a visa but did not have one so they were illegal and had no problem.

For one thing, a long-term visa is very hard to get, I know as I got one. I know others who tried their best and did not get one ( like the friend I described above).

I believe rhg is also already in Europe and a long stay visa usually must be applied for in ones home country and they are expensive and there is no guarantee that one will get one after all the effort and expense.

One can easily stay long term in Europe, just by spending time outside of the Schwengen area..without a long stay visa. Many kids do this from Oz and NZ as it is a tradition in thier culture.
