Ick. That's what I get for being in a hurry. Header should read "picks" of course.

Hold the phone, Marilyn. The SJMN reports that a "low-fare airline carrying the Virgin name" will be based at SFO; HQ for the yet unnamed airline will be in NYC.

Technicalities aside, I wonder if they'll have a gala inaugural sale? Let's stay on it!

Virgin's low fair US based airline has been in the planning for a while. Today's announcement is that the Admin headquarters (HR, planning, etc) will be in Manhattan and the Ops headquarters (pilots, air and ground staff, maintenence, etc) will be in San Francisco. Eventual staffing levels -- 300 in NYC, 1500 in SF.

Maybe Sir Richard will give Jet Blue and Southwest a run for the money.

Anyone giving BA some competition on the SF-London run is OK with me. I think it's got to make for some good deals.

Marilyn: VS already flies out of SFO. This new airline isn't about transatlantic routes - it is a domestic airline. But maybe it will allow for inexpensive connections to VS international gateways from more US cities.

janis: Oh. I didn't realize that. Still, Virgin is a bit different from the pack, so we'll see what they come up with to give the big guys a run for their money.
