Virgin Atlantic carry on question?

Does anyone know the deal on how big a carry on bag you are permitted to bring on board?

Had a horrible experience on Virgin,I flew from JFK to Heahtrow on a FULL flight and brought a carry on aboard weighing about twenty five pounds plus a little bag of goodies weighting perhaps 5 pounds.

Returning to JFK was told by the Virgin agent that I could only bring aboard a 6kg bag. That's about 14 pounds I guess. So I had to check my bag, what a DRAG.
The equipment was an A 360 the same as the flight from JFK but this time the flight was empty.

I could have brought on ten carry ons.
What gives?

The last time I flew Virgin weight limit for carry on was roughly 13 lbs. I checked my luggage but coming home from London many people in the check in line in front of me and to shuffle around their luggage and put carry on stuff in the checked luggage. Can't remember a problem from US to UK. But coming back they were really strict.

6kg is the rule. It is just more rigorously enforced at Heathrow than it is in the US. This is pretty common for most of the European airlines that have strict carry-on weight limits.

yep - 6 kilo/13 and a skoosh more lbs.

That's the rule. Clearly explained on the VS website BTW . . . . .

You were lucky they overlooked yours on the outbound flight.

Who can pack a 6kg bag for a week?

And I thought I was traveling light.

Is this only a Virgin rule?
If so,I guess I'm taking another line the next time.
Thanks

SAS, Lufthansa, Austrian, and Swiss are all 8kg for carry-ons.

Re 13 lbs carry-on: That's usually not a problem for me with with a soft sided bag (depending on the season and length of trip), but for a roll-aboard it aint gonna work.
