Virgin Atlantic

For those of you who have traveled Virgin Atlantic...thumbs up, or thumbs down? I don't see much on this board about them, even doing a search. This would be a flight into London or Dublin, from NYC. Thanks.

They are my favorite airline.. with the caveat that their food is pretty nasty!<BR>The service has always been wonderful.. the little TV screens even in coach make a HUGE difference... 3 movies and your there! But I can't say enough about the service, even in line at Heathrow, they passed out glasses of OJ and they DO have cadbury chocolates.. which almost.. but doesn't entirely make up for the really nasty regular food... but what do you want from Airline food. We fly Virgin whenever possible.

Flew Virgin to London..very excellent service, lots of little goodies, tv screens great for kids

Thumbs up - Virgin is great - flew them from NYC to London last year '00. My carry-on was a bit too heavy - they threatend to make me check it - so I took a heavy art book I had purchased for a friend out to make it lighter and started rearranging things. One of the attendants gave me a black canvas Virgin bag for my "bits and pieces."

I've flown Virgin from San Francisco to London twice and they are terrific. Service is excellent and the I found the food on par with most other airlines.<BR><BR>Donna

I agree with Thyra - they are my favorite as well!<BR><BR>they used to have the best video games - now, they suck though, but what can you do - it still is nice having your own screen.<BR><BR>they pass out Bailey's shots, as well as ice cream mid flight.<BR><BR>and little bags of goodies - socks, eye masks, toiletries, writing pad & pen, toothbrush, etc.<BR><BR>also, they name their planes! how cute! while waiting to board I looked right out the window at our plane - the big Virgin logo (a woman in a red bathing suit, flying, holding the Union flag behind her) and the plane was named Lady Penelope... (imagine a HUGE HUGE HUGE 747-400 with a name like that!!)<BR><BR>on the way back, I asked the steward what the planes name was (I didn't see it) and he checked & came back to say, "This plane is named Tinker Belle!!"<BR><BR>LOL. NO ONE shoots Tinker Belle out of the sky - I felt much better. &lt;wink&gt;<BR><BR>you gotta love a corporation with a sense of humor. did you hear about their ad campaign re: the British Airways London Eye?<BR><BR>Beth

This is great to hear...thanks!

sorry folks, but i've got a dissenting opinion. upper class is great, but economy class is the pits. last trip from london to hkg, indifferent crew, ptv broken, channel controller (or whatever u call it) missing(!). even the lights didn't work.<BR><BR>12 hours in the dark. how romantic.

I hate to put in a sour note too.... The positives- food really not too bad, the goody bags with earplugs, creams, etc. nice.<BR>The negatives - going to London, seats were way too cramped (in coach)felt like a contortionist. Last time, don't remember if enroute to Amsterdam, sat next to exit with this protrusion (wheel well or something) and freezing air coming in down at my feet. Had to put on two pair of socks and two blankets not to freeze.<BR><BR>I guess this can happen on most airlines. Continental, etc. have more seat space. Check it out, especially if flying coach!

Love, love love Virgin! Best airline ever!

I like Air France too but flew on a new plane once that had no a/c in the back of the plane so they turned it up high and froze everybody so the cold air would get back to the back of the plane! We were all huddled under blankets for the entire flight. But, when I think of all the planes that I have flown in and the indifferent service, inedible food, dirty, uncomfortable, flights---Virgin is great!

To Wondering-- I LOVEEEEEEEEE Virgin Atlantic-- It is the ONLY airline I fly to ENGLAND------------<BR>As one post said-the coach section is a tad small, but the terrific service, funny goodie bags and good food (yes, the airline actually had good food) was wonderful. The stewardesses have to be handpicked for both terrific service and beauty--they are the most gorgeous I have ever seen on any airline.<BR><BR>Upper Class is FANTASTIC- even have a masseuse! and an OPEN BAR~~~<BR><BR>Virgin Atlantic is the only way to fly---too bad they don't go to more European destinations-- their code share with British Midland is the pits.

Virgin Atlantic is an excellent airline. I use them from New York To London.

Flew Virgin from Boston to London with my sister. After a very scary aborted take-off (miscommunication with air traffic control) the rest of the flight wasn't too bad... actually enjoyed it. Coming back to Boston, they canceled our flight but made a great effort to get us to Boston. They bussed us over to Heathrow and put us on a British Airways flight which got in to Logan about 4 hours than we would have. Not bad at all. Coming from CA, it could have been a nightmare, but Virgin did an excellent job.

I think British Airways has come a long way in keeping up with Virgin. Except for the Cadbury's I think BA is the same. I now fly BA as my airline of choice to/from Ireland and England, only because I find it more convenient out of Boston. My last flight home in September was outstanding. (And for some reason I recall that it's easier to book through to Ireland with BA)
