Vinyard Tour - St. Emilion

I came across Le Train des Grands Vignobles a St-Emilion at

Anyone have any information on this or other ideas about touring the wine country?

Ira, we saw the little train while there last month. It looked cute.
We used www.saint-emilion-tourisme.com to search for the cave & vineyard tours. Click on the grapes/wine bottle icon and it takes tou to a listing of all vineyards and their tours available, times and languages. We found it very helpful.
We also enjoyed the tourisme office's "underground" tour of the city.

We toured Bordeaux wine country a couple of years ago. Wish I'd known of Judy's site then. We used the Access guide to French wine regions and a couple of other wine guides. We did have a wonderful time. May I recommend to you staying at the St. James Hautrives Hotel in Bouilliac across the river from Bordeaux itself. It's in an itty bitty village which it seems like the hotel practically owns. The hotel itself is very modern but in a vineyard with lovely amenities. It's a Relais and Chateau member but only cost us $160 a double in 2002. Perfectly located for wine country touring. I'll try to dig up my report on the place and the wineries we visited--also the restaurants. We enjoyed our visit to the Bordeaux area very much.

ira, I just topped my old report on Bordeaux for you. It's titled Report--Bordeaux, Loire, Brittany and Normandy. Hope you find it helpful. La Tupina in Bordeaux was an excellent restaurant. So was Lion d'Or in Arcins and the restaurants in Boulliac both at the hotel and the little Bistro near the hotel also owned by them I think.

We stayed in St. Emilion and really liked being able to walk everywhere, including to a vineyard tour. We tend to plan and book well in advance so were able to get a room at Hostelerie de Plaisance, a Relais & Chateaux property as well, for 120 Euros for a standard (small) double!
It was well worth it to enjoy our wine every evening on their terrace which overlooks the village and vineyards.
