Vintage Boutiques in London

I leave on Friday for London and want to hit the wonderful Vinatage boutiques. A friend has a pair of fabulous Chanel boots she got at vintage store that is located "behind" Harrods she says.
She thinks one of the stores is called Pandora's Box? Apparently there are several in a row??

Can anyone shed some light on this fo rme! Thanks!

I don't know that one (being a straight bloke and all that) but there are a row of them in Notting Hill as you go towards Portobello Rd.

I think't its indeed called Pandora's Box, in Cheval Place, near Harrods. Since it's a wealthy residential area, you may find upmarket clothes that the local ladies are selling in that shop.

Topshop Oxford Circus has a vintage range.

Portobello Road on Saturday will have a lot of vintage, particularly further along, away from Notting Hill Gate.

There's a shop called Rellik there, that I haven't been to yet, but the name comes up a lot in articles about vintage. It's close to Portobello Road.

I don't know if Steinberg & Tolkien is still around, on the King's Road.

Have fun!

hi annesherrod - I don't have much more advice but wanted to wish you a good trip. I leave this afternoon for London - maybe I will see you trawling Portobello Road...

Thanks so much!!

Taggie - Happy travels to you!! How long are you there for???

Tulips - YOu wont believe this but i know the owner of Steinberg Tolkien - My husband went to High School with her in the us. We have had her and her husband over for dinner several times when they are here visiting family. Her husband wrote a book - not on the same par as his grandfather but still good!!

I have not talked to them in a couple of years - I wonder if their shop is still open!! I will inquire.

It appears that Steinberg Tolkien closed their doors for good back in Sept 2007 - too bad!

If you know where they live. You can phone and they can direct
you to the best vintage shops.

Oh that's too bad - I liked that shop.

I'll be in England for 18 days...
Just off to the airport now!

Pandora's Box is easily found. From Harrod's go west on Brompton to the first intersection with a Pret a Manger sandwich shop on the NW corner. Walk up that street 1 block & turn left. You'll see Pandora's at the next corner. There's another smaller resale shop in the same block or there was a couple of years ago.

I've been in there a lot. It's really pricey but fun to look at some glorious stuff. If you like Indian food, right by there are 2 on the same street. Shezan and also Haandi.

Thanks Carrybean!!

How are things shaking for you these days!!??

Not bad! Too bad you're not going to London in May. There's a get-together afoot for the latter half of that month. Enjoy your trip!

I recommend this Vintage shop:

http://www.absolutevintage.co.uk/

It's huge and got a very good selection and not overpriced.
Near Liverpool street, Spitalfields markets.

Happy shopping.

Speaking as a retired governess, I am surprised by the name "Pandora's Box".
The owners obviously don't know their classics, unless of course, the owner really is called Pandora ;-)
