Vinopolis - London
I'll be going to London in September and don't worry. I already know what I'll wear and how to get to my hotel (thanks to this board and others), but in my research, I've come upon Vinopolis which apparently is an museum or gallery devoted to wine and winemaking. Has anyone here ever visited and if so, would you recommend it or not? There are so many things I want to do, so I'll need to prioritize. I've also read good things about the Geoffrye Museum(I know I spelled that wrong).

Looking forward to hearing comments. Thanks.
Oh, I've read about it too and I do hope you go and bring back a report. Sounds hokey but interesting. Could be quite exciting. Consider a trip there a research effort for all the rest of us who want to know. Thanks.

it is fun (great place to have a party/reception/stag do/hen party) but if you have to prioritize for time, I wouldn't put it terribly high (depending on why you are in London - to see history, nah skip it, to just party or drop into things while out sightseeing - why not).

it's on the south bank near the Thames, so you can certainly see an awful lot on a day excursion then stop there for a peek/drink. for about 12 pounds you get to sample 10 different wines (and depending on how friendly your guide is, you can get actual glasses full) as well as see all the various museum-y things. they even had a Vespa last time I was there. (how this ties in closely to wine making I don't remember)

they have a great wine store attached - gift shop, all things vinous. fun but not mind blowing.

If I were on the Southbank anyway, seeing Globe theater , southwark cath, etc. I would make it a quick stop..Good food, and the wine shop is worth a quick visit if you're into wine accessories, etc. Didn't bother with the tour , had other things to do, but the buildig itself was kind of interesting and it was lunchtime

Whoops...forgot you also asked about The Geffrye..we loved it , very small, interesting building itself, laid out in a progressing time frame. If you are interested in interior design and decoration it is very much worth the trip, nice cafe and shop also .

This tour was fun - definitely recommend it - I live in London and have done it a few times with friends of mine who have been to visit!! If you like wine then its fun and informative and they have a great selection of wines.....if its raining and you don't want to be outside then I would definitely give it a go!!

cheers and bottoms up!!

Hi, Paige :-D

You guys will really enjoy the Geffrye. One of my favorite "small" London museums. Go late morning and then finish up with an early lunch in their cafe. Also try to get to Sir John Soanes Museum. It is near the Inns of Court so you might stop by after visiting with a certain mutual friend.

As for Vinopolis - it is OK but with your limited time maybe a pass this trip. I put it with the Tower Bridge Experience - entertaining but not a "must" by any stretch. The wine shop is good, but you don't really go to London to buy wine.
