Vineyard (Bordeaux) help

Hi-I will be in the Dordogne area this coming weekend and would like to go to Bordeaux (so far St. Emillion is at the thop of my list) and tour a winery. I have never done this before, here or in France, so am not sure what to expect. Perhaps I can join a tour that provides transportation and commentary to more than one vineyard. Any recommendations? What do you do there, other than taste wine?

The Maison du Vin and Tourist Office in downtown Bordeaux offer tours, classes, tasting, etc. Here is a link to a website with more information. Since you'll be there this coming weekend I'd call them at the crack of dawn tomorrow!

Other than taste wine, you usually learn about how it's made, different appelations, variations in soil, etc.

You might also want to try the Maison des Vins in Bergerac - depending where you are in the Dordogne, you may not want to go as far as Bordeaux.

Second ira on Monbazillac. Never been, but heard good things from several who have and it would be a much shorter trip.
