Vilnius & Tallinn in March/April - how bad will the weather be?

I have 9 days off during late March - early April and am considering a trip to Estonia & Lithuania, to be split between the two cities of Tallinn & Vilnius. If I have the time, I'd also love to add on Trakai and the Hill of Crosses and even take the ferry to Helsinki.

However, I know that the timing isn't all that great, since it will be the end of winter, and the weather will probably still be cold and the roads icy and slushy.

The guide books that I've read so far aren't all that promising about the weather, either, but I thought I'd check on here to see if it is as bad as the books say, or if I could still have a relatively good trip despite the weather?

The actual dates that I am looking at are March 27th to April 4th.

I was up there in January a few years ago. The Baltic Sea has a moderating influence on the weather. Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius are beautiful. Just bundle up.

I live in Tallinn and I can say that the weather in March/early April has been different almost in every year. Average temperature is -5 til -10 degrees Celsius. If lucky, you will see snow. The good factor is that it is getting lighter and people can remind themselves that the sun really does exist in Estonia. So if you are not afraid of cold then it could be a good time to visit Vilnius and Tallinn.
If you want, I can send you some pictures taken in Tallinn in March and April 2006-2008.

Hi Helen, we're planning a Baltic cruise in 2011. What month would you suggest of May, June or September? I checked online and it says it rains more in June & July???
Thanks,
Som
