Villages & Restaurants in Northern Spain

Hi, we will be spending two weeks driving in Northern Spain. What are some of your favorite villages that have nice small hotels or paradors? What restaurants did you really enjoy. Thanks for your help!!!

We stayed in May 2000 in Santillana del Mar a charming village just a few miles north of Santander. The Parador/Hotel is called the Gil Blas Santillana. It is beautiful and was a highlight of our northern Spain trip. Also north of Barcelona about 30 minutes from the French border is the Mas de Torrent which is a delightful Relais & Chateaux with excellent restaurant. It has beautiful views of the medieval walled town of Pals which is similar to St Paul de Vence in France & worth a trip.
In Santiago de Compuestela is the most beautiful parador in all of Spain, Hotel de los Reyes Catolico built as an inn & hospital for the pilgrams & now a pardor overlooking a beautiful plaza and the Santiago Cathedral. Wonderful winding cobblestone narrow lanes, shops & restaurants featuring all types of fish & seafood. Nothern Spain is our favorite area. If you have time, San Sebastian is beautiful and La Rioja wine rejion about an hour south of the basque coast & Bilbao is worth a visit.
