Haven't stayed there, sorry, but I can tell you it is located on a very busy road (between hotel and lake).
BTW, they often have last-minute deals. Have a look at www.myswitzerland.com e.g.

Have you seen my reply on the Hotel Masson thread? I would definitely recommend to stay there. It is charming!
No idea about the Royal Plaza. Seems to be such a business hotel which is to find anywhere. Not bad of course, but no local ambience.

I can't help with a hotel choice as I'm lucky enough to have a dear friend who lives in Montreux that I stay with. I would think any of the hotels directly along the quai/lake would be nice for more modern, or up in "Old Montreux" for more old-world atmosphere. Mostly wanted to give a thumbs up as this area being a real nice place to spend your first few days in Switzerland.
If you happen to be around on a Saturday morning, I HIGHLY recommend the Vevey early morning open air market in the town square. It's the "real deal" with all kinds of fruits, vegetables, baked goods, meats, cheese, flowers, etc. etc. a great peak into local town life. Montreux has one on Friday and Vevey a 2nd one on Tuesday but these are much much smaller.

We stayed at Villa Toscane during the Montreux Jazz Festival. As a party of three, we had a huge, and I mean huge third floor room that overlooked the street, the park and the lake. The bathroom was beautiful. The buffet breakfast was great. My mother had a "single" room -- which actually had two beds, was pretty large too, and had a deck outside that appeared to be all her own (the size of a garage rooftop).
The hotel is located quite close to the train station (there are stairs from the station that go straight down to the main street. It's a very easy walk to everything. You cross the street and can walk along the promenade, which is lovely.
Yes, it's located on the main street, but even in summer, with all the windows open (it being quite hot) and the whole festival with people packed around us, I didn't notice any noice.
You do have to climb stairs to get to your room, if that's a problem for you.

Hi again orange-cat,
I guess I'll have to eat my comments about the Toscane on your other hotel thread. I really thought the Royal Plaza hotel would have blocked the views! Thanks, Surfergirl, for your more accurate comments.

Oh yes, S, you are the expert on the Montreux region and right as usual - I should have mentioned the Golf Hotel Rene Capt. An excellent choice - but definitely book a lakeside room with those stunning views.
