Villa San Pio,Rome any first hand opinions?

I was just wondering if anyone has stayed there recently, and how was it in the Aventino district? Is it walking distance to the Trestavere area?
Judy

Look at this site under hotels. There are a couple new reviews.

Just returned today from 2 week trip to Italy where we spent the first 4 nights at the Hotel Villa San Pio in Rome. I got the suggestion for the hotel from this thread so I wanted to reply to your inquiry.
It was absolutely the best choice we made on the whole trip.
The room (303??) was lovely with doors that opened onto the parking lot but lots of trees and flowers were visible. The bathroom was gorgeous and spacious. The bedroom was recently renovated with a high ceiling and a very comfortable king size bed.
Couldn't get the air conditioning to work but didn't need it.
For location, it's a bit off the beaten track, but that's part of its charm. We walked everywhere from there. Trastevere is just over the bridge and to get into the heart of it is a 20 minute walk at most. The Metro Station at Piramide is a 10 minute walk and we used the Metro to return from the Spanish Steps and to go to the Colosseum.

We also enjoyed walking through the Testaccio neighbourhood which is 5 minutes from the hotel.

Cost was 194 Euros a night which by Italian standards is high mid range but we were very satisfied with the value.
Good luck.
AHM
Thanks Allan, I also read about Villa San Pio on this forum. All the things you wrote just confirm it for me thanks so much, we will be ending our trip of three weeks spending our last 6 nights there, so you've put me at ease.
Thanks again Judy
P.S. Any neighbourhood restaurant recommendations?
