Villa San Pio Hotel--Rome

My wife and I are considering staying there for a week in June. Any comments--good or ill? Many thanks

Hi rbon. We stayed at that hotel in Rome last month and just absolutely loved it. I loved it so much I canceled my reservation with the Cesari Hotel in the last leg of our journey so we could stay there again.. The rooms are quite spacious, comfortable and warm with charming decor. Good water pressure in the marble bathrooms. Gracious staff. Breakfast was substantial. The hotel is located in a quiet residential area and provides a peaceful oasis of relief at the end of a day's hectic touring in crazy Rome. I was initially quite concerned it might be too far away from the center but I consider the 8 euro taxi ride a worthwhile investment for a good night's sleep.Otherwise we usually took the metro which was a 10 min walk from the hotel to the stop , at the start of the day and then took a cab to get back at the end of the day when we were too tired to walk. The surrounding area is very safe. This is always going to be my hotel when I visit Rome. Hope you have a great trip!

Thanks for your question rbon. We're staying there for 3 nights starting May 15th and I basically picked it from the Rants and Raves section. I'll let you know when we get back but it will be interesting to read other responses you get.

Hi rbon. My husband and I stayed at the San Anselmo which is right next door to the Villa San Pio last year and thought it was wonderful. Had a lovely big room, beautiful decor, and loved the area. We could park our car right outside on the street, and found several restaurants close by. Would stay there again, staff really good, nice breakfast.

Hi! First of all, let me say that if you've never been to Rome, you will fall in love with the city. My husband and I spent a week in Rome this past October. We, too, stayed at the Villa San Pio and we absolutely loved it! We also loved the neighborhood. It is in a residential area lined with lovely trees. There are also some of Rome's best restaurants in this area and they are very Roman. You will love your stay there, I promise. The rooms are beautiful -- hard wood floors and marbled bathrooms. The breakfast is very generous and delicious and the hotel staff is extremely helpful. I can't say enough good things about Villa San Pio. Enjoy!

Hi rbon,

You may have already made your hotel decision for Rome but we just got back Saturday and stayed at the Villa San Pio and loved it. It was so peaceful after all those noisy scooters and it was lovely to wake up to birds singing every morning. We never waited more than 5minutes for a taxi to pick us up and once we even walked back from the Piazza Venezia as we couldn't find a taxi and the walk wasn't bad at all. It was just a short cab ride to any of the main areas. The rooms were lovely although the bed was pretty hard. We had a nice jacuzzi tub which was very pleasant after long days of walking. I was a little concerned that my husband would like this hotel as he is more of a large, full amenity hotel kind of guy but he loved it as well. I would stay there again. If you go... try Perilli's restaurant at the bottom of the hill on Mamorenta ( sp?)The desk clerk will show you where. It was a short walk and the food was excellent.
