Villa in Crete
We were originally looking at 4 days in western Crete, probably in Chania Town, and a day in Heraklion before moving to another island (Folegandros). We are traveling with 2 other couples and have found a villa approx. 10 miles from Chania which looks fantastic and is a weekly rental.
My concern is....will we have enough to keep us busy based for a week a little west of Chania? Any thoughts appreciated. |
Provide you like old villages, good food, fine beaches, mountains, archaeology, scenery, boat trips, monasteries, you'll be fine. I could spend a lifetime there.

Thanks, just what I needed to hear!!

Judy, you have to have a car. If you rent a car you will have the chance for short excursions to different beaches everyday or to nearby villages and sites of interest. You can even have a day excursion to eastern Crete. Drive to Rethymno, which is close to Chania or even to Heraklio to visit Knossos (a site you shouldn't miss). You won't get bored, a week is barely enough to explore Crete!!

Hi,
We spent a week in a rented villa outside of Chania. It was heavenly. There is so much to see and beautiful beaches. Don't forget to go south over the mountains to the Libyan sea. The food is wonderful. Have a great vaca. Yipper |
Thanks for the replies. We know there is a lot to see and do in Crete...we were just a little concerned that the location west of Chania was not particularly central and we'd rather not spend hours a day in a car. Nice to know that there are lots of possible short excursions!
I imagine we will still spend a night in Heraklio in order to ferry to Flogandros via Santorini. |
I should preview....that's Folegandros.

I don't suppose Judy will come back once she got the info she needed, but it would be nice to know how her stay in Crete turned out ... helps us to help others in turn.

Hi travelerjan. I never mentioned in my posting that the trip is this May....we tend to plan a year in advance!
It has changed a bit as one couple dropped out. We are now staying in Chania for 4 nights, Heraklion for one night (to see Knossos and take a morning ferry to Paros), Paros for 4 nights, Nafplio for 4 nights and 2 nights in Athens. Other than Athens, these are all new destinations for us. |
Your itinerary sounds sensible, I have done much the same, just swapping Naxos for Paros ... Glad you came back to let us know. I think it's always thoughtful to give approximate dates for one's trips in the first message -- it helps people to give you better advice.
