Villa in Cote d'Azur

I'm on a quest for the perfect place to rent on the French Riviera and need some guidance about towns/areas. We'll need a large house because we're inviting kids (recent college graduates), friends and family. It's our present to ourselves for our 30th anniversary. (We honeymooned in Paris and Nice.) Probably early June 2007 (but we might take a scouting trip this September.) We want to be up in the hills, not in the coastline traffic. Great view is essential, as well as feeling out of the hectic pace. But we want to be within 15 minutes of food stores and 30 minutes of neat villages and a couple of golf courses. From what I've read here, Tourette sur Loup sounds good. After my last experience driving around Grasse I think I want to steer clear of that town. Would we be better off looking in the Tourette/Vence area or perhaps Mougins/Biot? I've found great houses to check out all over and need a little help paring down my choices. Thanks so very much in advance.

I'm replying again to bring it ttt. After scouring this board, I've at least narrowed it down (I think) to Vence, Valbonne and Mougins. Has anyone had any experience with Villa Holidays (villaholidays.com)? Thanks for any advice you can give.

fbc...for your scouting trip, I suggest staying in a villa near TSL...we stayed there five nights in April and absolutely loved the locale...about ten minutes from TSL in gorgoeus countryside with fantastic valley views of Gourdon, Bar sur Loup, Pont sur Loup, etc....owned by a Brit couple who could probably introduce you to many Brit villa owners for rental possibilities 2007...possibly they would rent out the four rooms exclusively for you and family...wonderful place.Look it up on my thread trip report.."Barge-ing in Cote d'azur, Provence and Alsace" or on this link below.(only 85 E's per night, with delightful breakfast) but they'd probably make an attrractive rate well enough in advance for all four rooms in June 2007).

Hello there:

We have used the above twice renting villas in Provence and have been really pleased with the service and the properties. They are however a bit pricey.

Take a look at the various properties BELOW Grasse, in the gated community of St-Jacques. There are some very nice places owned by British families, and the location is excellent: quick and easy access to the main road that runs down to the coast.

Thanks so very much for the replies. The place near TSL looks great and I'm glad to hear that it's not to remote to be convenient to other places. I'll definitely look at places in St Jacques when I'm scouting for houses. Thanks to you all.

An advantage to the St-Jacques area is that it's right across the valley from the big Auchan supermarket.

Sorry to bother everyone, but now I'm getting intrigued by the Fayence/Seillans area. The Terre Blanche golf course and lake seem right down my husband's and son's alley, and the friends coming to join us love the slow life, good cooking and views more than tourism. What do you think? Thanks so much. Ann
