Villa Igea Venice
 

Just wondering if anyone has stayed at this hotel. If so, is it nice? I have tried to find reviews on Villa Igea but have not found anything. I am due to go to Venice next week.

When all else fails. . .Google.

I just googled Villa Igea Venice and got a ton of hits, a number of them with reviews, including a link to TripAdvisor where there were 7 or 8 reviews as recent as last month!

Thanks for that. I had a read of some, it sounds ok. I think I will try to book it.

Our family enjoyed our stay at the Villa Igea in the summer of 2004. Originally we booked a suite at the Savoia & Jolanda, however, upon arrival DW was worried that the room would be too noisy since it was located smack dab on the Grand Canal with hordes of tourists streaming below! Our ex-travel agent thought the kids would get a kick out of watching the boats go by. They were nice enough to move us into two rooms at the Villa Igea which we found to be absolutely fine, rather modern, and extremely spacious...a rarity in Venice. Not as opulent as the Savoia, but rather functional and most importantly very private. Here is what I wrote in my trip report circa 2004 (if you like, click on my log-on to get more Venice info):


"We stayed at the Villa Igea located in the Castello sestieri on the very private Campo San Zaccaria. Even though it is not more than 50 yards from the crowded seafront promenade of the Riva Degli Schiavoni, our little campo was quiet and peaceful with its church, fountain and carabineiri station. The villa is run by the Savoia and Jolanda Hotel located just a few steps away and where our breakfast was served. The rooms were spacious and bathrooms looked newly remodeled".

As I remember the Villa Igea has the look and feel of..well...a villa, in that it is not usually staffed, there is no restaurant, and it lacks the hustle and bustle of a hotel lobby. You would never know that the thousands of day trippers are traipsing by just around the corner. At the time they were installing a nice terrace with chairs and chaise lounges. If you want to be near the center of the action i.e. a few steps to Piazza San Marco, but sleep in absolute peace and quite, not to mention safety (the police are right across the street) :) this place might be perfect for you. On other trips to Venice without kids, we stayed at the Ca'Pisani which is located in my favorite neighborhood, the Dorsoduro.

Thanks BelTib, your report was really helpful. I think Villa Igea sounds more than ok for me. I'm still waiting to see if we can get a reservation there.
