Villa D'Este or Other Hotel on Lake Como?

Hi,

We're planning our 20th wedding anniversary are have already booked Le Sirenuse in Positano. Is there anyplace else in Lake Como that you would consider top notch? Villa D'Este looks great but possibly a little too much. I've heard Bellagio is gorgeous. We're also looking to book something in Ravello. Trying to decide between Sasso and Caruso there. Any thoughts? Thanks so much.

Look at the Grand Hotel Serbelloni in Bellagio.

But what time of year is this trip?

I agree with Jean--best location at Lake Como.

A better hotel across the lake on the west shore may be Grand Hotel Tremezzo---near the ferry stop.

I have stayed at Villa D'Este, Plazzo Sasso and Grand Hotel Serbelloni. All are top notch. The rooms at Villa and Hotel Serbelloni were large. Sasso not so much.

The service is top notch. Villa D'Este is a little stuffy but has goregous grounds.

Enjoy

Villa d'Este and Grand Hotel Serbelloni are both top notch but the latter is probably more romantic due to the extraordinary location.

Why the need for two hotels on the Amalfi coast?

When travelling from south to north have you considered a 1 or 2 night stay at Villa San Michele at Florence? Truly one of the most romantic hotels on earth - http://www.villasanmichele.com/web/o...an_michele.jsp

The easiest way to reach Florence would be by the very fast Eurostar train from Naples.

A possibility on Lake Maggiore:

Serbelloni has awesome views, is way more rustic that Villa D' Este, I agree that Villa D"Este is stuffy, BUT, it is very nice. I think that Serbelloni has nicer restaurants to walk to. Serbelloni is way cheaper.

Tremezzo is just beautiful, we stayed in Cadenabbia 1.5 miles away and passed daily by Tremezzo and ate there. The Hotel Tremezzo is just great has a great swimming pool by the lake and gorgeous gardens, right by Villa Carlotta and the San Martino Church. I think the area is just gorgeous and much more quiet than Bellagio across the lake. The ferries run from Tremezzo each 30 mins for 9 euros.

The scenery is more beautiful at mid lake where Bellagio is located than the southern part where Villa d'Este is situated . Hotel Serbelloni would be my choice for that reason alone. Lots of good restaurant choices nearby too.

Villa d'Este is pretty incredible. We have stayed there twice and loved it. We did not find it stuffy at all. The adjacent village of Cernobbio,a nice walk of a mile, is so nice. The piazza looking over the lake is from a fairy tale. We stayed at Palazzo Sasso in Ravello and thought it was the greatest place we have ever stayed. Have a nice trip!!

I'll add our favorite www.grandhoteltremezzo.com

We loved our stay there. And another reason to stay there is www.alveluu.com restaurant about a 5-10 minute drive away. I've said on this site so many times that it was one of our favorite dinners in all of Europe. Outside dining overlooking the lake, very romantic.

Visited Villa d'Este---beautiful, but out of our price range and we prefer the mid-lake area. Also visited Serbelloni in Bellagio----in a busier location in Bellagio so you could walk to more places if that is what you are looking for. We found it to be a bit stuffy, but that's just us.
