Villa d'Este from Rome - Train or bus?
We are planning to leave fairly early in the morning from Rome, so as to arrive around opening time at Villa d'Este. I've mostly read about taking Cotral bus from a stop on the metro. I'd prefer to take one train if that is possible. Is the train to Tivoli at all convenient? If you have experience with one or both, what would you recommend? I imagine the cost is more or less comparable ( a few dollars one way or the other won't make my decision - convenience will!)
Thanks for any help. |
Hi hana - The only problem is that Tivoli station is quite a walk from Villa d'Este - you might want to get a taxi.
Hope this helps ... Steve |
Here's some homework for you: look up the schedules for both the train and the bus:
www.ferroviedellostato.it www.cotralspa.it Read Ron in Rome's excellent article comparing the Cotral Bus service to the train service between Rome and Tivoli: www.roninrome.com |
Yikes, I'm kind of late in responding...thanks to both of you for the replies. The links helped a lot. I wouldn't mind a taxi to the Villa. Safe to assume some will be standing at the station?
Thanks again. |
It's a small station - so there may or may not be taxis waiting.
If not, you could phone for one. Here's a list of Tivoli taxi tel. nos: http://www.paginegialle.it/pgol/4-ta...za%20Garibaldi The station clerk may be happy to call for you. Steve |
www.cattivoli.com is the local bus in Tivoli. Line 1 stops at the train station. Click on C.A.T. cooperativa autoservize tiburtini, then click on (enter) You can also find the timetable to get to Hadrian's Villa. You can click on "view on google map" to see the routes.
