Villa Borghese - Bikes?

I read somewhere that a nice change of pace is to rent some bikes on Sundays here. Can anyone tell me if bike rentals are readily available here or where one can find the bikes to rent?

Try looking at www.romarent.com. Otherwise, I think you just go to the Borghese Gardens and ask where the bike rental place is. I know you can rent paddleboats at the lake, if that would interest you, too.

The website I just gave is not around anymore! Sorry about that. However, if you go to www.enjoyrome.com, they offer a 3 1/2 hour bicycle tour for 25 euros. It includes the helmet, and they tour either in the afternoon or the evening. The website shows the route they take. If you go to a search engine and type in "bicycle rentals Rome" you'll come up with a few leads you can pursue.

We did see bikes at Villa Borguese 2 weeks ago. We were there on a Sunday and many people were renting them. I did not see the "rental stand" or it's location, but I know they are available. The bikes we saw were kind of like a golf cart/car thing with two seats side by side and you both peddle. It had a roof type thing like a golf cart type of look. I did not see individual bikes. They also had these bike/car things for 4 people. One other bit of advise....take beverages with you. We bought a diet coke in the park - 4.50 euros!!! nuts. Bring some bottled water and your own snack if you want to stop and rest.

Mdtravel, It would have been more efficient for me to have given you this info the first time, but better late than never: the place to rent bikes at Villa Borghese is I Bike Rome (tel 06/322 52 40). If you have the tour book Irreverent Guide to Rome 1st Edition, you will find two other sources for bike rentals, as well as approximate prices (page 129). If you go to Rome before September & rent bikes, tell about it. We've ridden our bikes along the lakeshore in Chicago, and it was just marvelous. Hoping cycling in Rome will be just as much fun.
