View of Rock of Gibraltar

I plan to visit Morocco for a week and then cross over to Spain via the ferry from Tangiers, Morocco to Tarifa, Spain. Does anyone know if one can see the Rock of Gibraltar during this ferry ride? If not, will the crossing from Tangiers to Algecrias provide me with a pretty good view of the Rock? (I would like to see the Rock of Gibraltar but am not necessarily interested in visiting it.)

If the weather is clear, you can see the 'Rock' from a long ways away.

You will see the rock of Gibraltar - it's huge. Tarifa to Gibraltar is a 30/45 minute drive - close enough for a day trip.

Gee- I hate that you don't want to go to the "rock". We really enjoyed that visit. The concert hall in the caves is fascinating and the vestiges of the old hospitals. One small piece of advice- hold on to anything that you have in your hands (especially your camera) when you get off the bus. the monkeys will steal anything they can. I watched the first woman off the bus stand there in shock when the monkey snatched her camera and kept going! I would have loved to see that insurance claim report!! Lynclarke

You can easily see the Rock and should seriously consider a day trip to Gibralter. It's an interesting city and the Rock makes a great visit, especially if there are any kids in your party. For my kids, the Gibralter apes were a highlight that they talk about even now, some years later.

Personally, I think that a day trip to gibraltar is a wasted day when you have other things to do. Yes, the caves are interesting, but the city itself is dirty and a sort of uncomfortable melange of British and Spanish culture. Also, if you are going to Morocco, you will have had your fill of monkeys. In fact, while in Marrakech, beware of the ones that go directly for your wallet. . . I venture to say they are all trained to do so.
