VIENNA TO ROME TRANSPORT

I am arriving in vienna on sunday at 9:15 am I need to get to rome As soon as possible after that without over paying.
I have found a train but it does not leave vienna until sunday evening and arrive on monday morning.
Is there a bus or any thing else that could get me there in better time?

All help is Greatly appreciated;)

sarah-

I don't think you have many options.

elberko- I looked at skyeurope. They only fly Vienna(Bratislava) in summer time, and even then, they don't fly that route on Sundays.

So, back to you, sarah. I looked at Eurolines (bus line), they don't serve Vienna-Rome, but they do serve Vienna-Venice. So, potentially, you can get off in Venice, then switch to the train to get to Rome. However, Euroline only runs the Vienna-Venice route once a day and the bus leaves at 7:30a, so that won't help you either.

There could be other bus companies, but I don't know any off the top of my head.

That leaves you with the only viable option (apart from the night train)- fly the main national airlines. Both Austrian Airlines & Alitalia serve that route. That will be your quickest (and most expensive) way.

Thanks elberko and yk,
I couldn't find anything else either. Guess i'll have to bite the bullet and take the night train.
Good travels;)

Try europebyair.com .

You can do this as two segments, connecting via Brussels. You might be able to book for cheaper though directly with the airlines if you can figure out which airline flies this route.

I bet the flights are limited, but you may be able to get in Sunday evening if the flight times all line up properly.

Another thought -- try a train to Munich and fly from Munich to Rome. Lufthansa may have cheap airfares within Europe.

Croatia Airlines - - available through www.europebyair.com in their $99 per segment FlightPass plan - - has two(?) segment service through Zagreb on Sundays (I arbitrarily checked Apr 25), as follows:

Dep Vienna, Austria 10:25
Arr Zagreb, Croatia 11:25
Non-stop

Dep Zagreb, Croatia 14:55
Arr Rome, Italy 17:20
1-stop (in Split)

I don't know if there are seats available on the flights you want (on which Sunday?) at this fare, but it gets you there sooner than Monday morning, and better rested for Monday activities than the Sunday night train, if it would work for you.

Also not entirely sure if they will call this two segments or not (the europebyair map shows ZAG-FCO as a "segment", even if it is 1-stop in Split).

Best wishes,

Rex

For only about $50 more (but might be cutting it too close?) there is a roundtrip fare of $140 GBP on Lufthansa shown on www.opodo.com departing at 10 am, arriving FCO at 14:10; change of planes in Duesseldorf.
