Vienna to Budapest
Has anyone taken the hydrofoil from Vienna to Budapest? Is the scenery worth the 80USD, or would I be better off taking the train?

I've heard and read mixed reports about the hydrofoil. However, it will matter when you travel, as the boat does not operate in the colder months -- from sometime in October until April of May, I recall. So, that may affect your options.

a round trip ticket for the train from Budapest to Vienna was around $25. Reports I've read regarding the hydrofoil have been unfavorable.

Thanks, I appreciate the comments. All other opinions on this topic are very much welcome!

I'm curious as to what specifically the negatives are about the hydrofoil between Vienna and Budapest? And are there are boat trips--length of time and cost??

Vera
The trouble is that for three hours of the way the river flows through a flood plain, so that apart from Bratislava there is little to see until you reach the Danube Bend, the romantic stretch from Esztergom to Budapest.

From Vienna a train in an hour upstream to Melk takes you in summer to boat trips on the Danube between Melk and Krems. From Budapest boats ply in summer to and from Esztergom.

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to Europe.

[email protected]
