The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook European Timetable. Table 996 shows that you may leave Vienna South station at 0600 (not Sundays), 0656, 0815, 1028, 1228 (Saturday only), 1328 (not Saturday), 1348 (Monday to Friday), 1612, 1615 (Monday to Friday), 1728, 1748 (Monday to Friday), 1928, and 2115 and take about 1 ½ hours to Bratislava main station. Some of these journeys involve an easy change of train at Marchegg. At 0721, 1248 (not Sundays), 1448, 1548 (Monday to Friday) 1648 (not Saturday), 1848, and 2019 (not Saturday) you can take an hour on a through train to the dull southern suburb of Bratislava-Petrzalka, and carry on to the city centre by bus.

Please write if I can help further. As usual, Ben Haines is a fountain of information. It took about 1 hour when I went and the train stopped outside the downtown area. You walk out the station and a bus will come to take you downtown. There is a huge gathering of buses when you get into Bratislava proper so you need to know what number your bus is and where it will be parked (signs are there but you have to look for the right one). Bratislava is a nice little town but I would not spend over a day or part of day there.

Dear Mr Vicek,

They do, but from 7 April to 28 October only. It's a hydrofoil, and since the valley there is wide you don't see much. Detail is on http://www.spap.sk/passenger/english/b_w_b_e.htm and http://www.mahartpassnave.hu/B-Bszarnyhajang.htm

Ben Haines, London
