Vienna State Opera Tickets !
 

Hi,

I plan on watching Macbeth at the Vienna State Opera on the 12th of June. I went to book my standby tickets https://www.culturall.com/ticket/ist...rmal&id=40470# but I am finding it slightly challenging to do so. Will really appreciate if you guys could help out !
I will be going for the 38 euros ticket, I am travelling with a friend and we do not want to spend too much money on the tickets and want to go for the experience mostly. So I decided to go for the cheap tickets! So here are my questions-

1. What does the field - ticket accepted until mean ? What dates am I supposed to choose ?
2. There is another section where I need to select further criteria for standby ticket orders- what exactly is that ?
3. Does ordering tickets on standby guarantee that I will get tickets ?
4. Can I select my seats ? There do not seem to be any options. But just in case I can any suggestions ? (Remember I am going for the 38 euros :) )

Have you registered and do you have a username and passowrd for the site? I think you may need to. Are standbys the ONLY tickets yet available?

Should have asked, sorry...are you dealing DIRECTLY on the Staatsoper website or through a broker?

Yes I am directly on the staatsoper website. There are only standby tickets because I guess the performance is still 2 months away. I do not have a username and password. I am so confused about what to do !

I haven't tried Vienna, but to book online at the Paris Opera you do need a user name and password. It is still not simple, but you can't do it at all without setting up your online presence.

I would register on the Staatsoper site and then look for the date you want and see what tickets are available. Unless the performance which is two months off is really sold out, or close to that, I would hope more than just stand-bys are available. However, lots of tickets are allocated to subscribers so it is very possible stand-bys are the only thing left.

I would also try other dates if you are even going to be there on any "other dates." It helps to play around with the thing sometimes.

The tickets are sold out for that date. You can always try your luck with unofficial sellers outside the Opera. Registration for Opera tickets is a "process," and unless you are part of the system from before the start of a new season, obtaining tickets otherwise is not that straightforward.

If I have given this OP ANY invalid information as to the benefits of registration, etc., I apologize. I had no idea you have to be registered BEFORE the season starts and all of that.

Dukey1, the system in Vienna is crazy. One is not "required" to be a part of the system, but not being so means the opportunity for tickets becomes more challenging. The Vienna Opera states that there are "always" tickets available, but...one typically finds themselves at the mercy of unofficial ticket vendors, last minute tickets from cancellations, lengthy wait lists, etc. (and usually not for the "cheap seats"), or queuing a couple of hours beforehand for the Standing Tickets.

Given all that ticket fuss, DH and I prefer to wander over to the big screen set up at Opera on warm evenings, in our casual clothes and typically with ice cream in hand, to catch a few minutes of one performance or another before carrying on with our evening.

It isn't a rule, it's just that tickets get sold out early, same as many other places.

The website clearly said the tickets were sold out, anyway, though, I could see that even without registering.

I wouldn't count on getting tickets from the stand-by list, but with three months to go you might have a chance.

My last visit to Vienna in May 2013, I managed to get tickets online from the State Opera site for one performance only 2 or 3 days in advance, but had no luck for standby for another performance.

If you really are set on seeing Macbeth on June 12, you might want to try one of the on-line agencies. Just search for vienna opera tickets and you should see three or more of them. One that I looked at was showing availability in all price categories. You'll pay an extra fee, but you should be able to get what you want.
