Vienna - Schönbrunn evening dinner/concerts?

While looking at Schönbrunn website, I see that they offer evening packages for dinner & concert.

Has anyone attended one of these?

How is the food and how is the quality of the music?

I'm thinking of getting the dinner + concert package (€ 65 for the cheapest seats).

A 3-course dinner is served at the Cafe-Restaurant Residenz. Here's the menu:

You can find better music and dining elsewhere-perhaps even at less cost.

The concert is not in the palace itself , but in an outer building.

The restaurant also.

Better quality music can be found elsewhere.

Look to these websites for better concerts. Both in city center area in historic halls.

I'm spending 3 nights in Vienna. I'm planning to attend an opera at Staatsoper one night, and the Vienna Philharmonic at the Musikverein for another night (provided I can get tickets for them).

The 3rd night is what I'm trying to decide on. The Schönbrunn concert is an option, or I may go get a standing ticket for another opera at the Staatsoper.

Just looking for feedback on the Schönbrunn concerts - if anyone has attended one of them.

molker lives there and is the expert. Why not go to the Volksoper:

Have a meal afterward or before at Cafe Weimar.

Kausie,

There is an event database at http://info.wien.at/

Once you have narrowed it down, post again and you will undoubtedly get some recommendations.

Look to the following websites for programs and descriptions of performances.

State Opera

Volksoper

In my opinion perhaps the best offering is State Opera on the 12th LaBoheme
Musikverein

Konzerthaus

HI

Thanks for the input. However, the best offering at State Opera on the 12th LaBoheme is sold out.

Are you aware of any marionette theaters and shows in Vienna? Thanks

I went to one once. Touristy in the extreme. The concert itself was held in the Orangerie "outhouse." It is not a good concert venue because the floor is flat, the hall is long and narrow, and seats in the back (Section C) are a long distance from the stage. The music was ok but very schmaltzy - selections like the Blue Danube Waltz, one movement from a Mozart symphony, one Mozart overture, and some other pop-classic stuff.

The food? Nothing memorable. But, I have yet to salivate when I recall any Vienna restaurant. I ate in one where the bill for two could easily have exceeded $200. The food was decent enough, but not the kind of meal that I thought worth what I paid. Either I am not a gourmand, or the stuff was only of high average quality. (I still think a Sacher Torte is a fancy name for chocolate sponge cake with a layer of apricot jam smeared between the slices and bedolloped with whipped cream.)

To make a long story short: The Schönbrunn experience featured touristy music and touristy food.
