Vienna, Salzburg, Prague in 10 nights - should we add another city?

My husband, 10-year old son, and I will be traveling to Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague next July, to loosely shadow a children's choir tour that my daughter will be participating in. The choir will be on a schedule in this order: Vienna - 3 nights; Salzburg - 2 nights; and Prague - 5 nights.

While I do want to be in each city to see the choir's major performances, we don't have to be locked to their schedule. Instead of spending 5 nights in Prague, should we spend 3 nights there and 2 nights in another location, possibly Budapest?

I will be researching the forum for hotels in each city, and any recommendations you have for accommodations in these locales will be greatly appreciated also! We are looking for a triple (or room large enough to accept an extra bed for my son), centrally located, for less than 150 euros per night.

Thanks -

Heather

The timing is good--stay with that.
In Salzburg, we like Pension Nonntal.
If you drive, try to stop in Cesky Krumlov enroute to prague.

I agree with Bobthe, though I haven't been to all those cities, there is a lot to see in Vienna and Prague. You also lose at least half a day, usually more, when traveling from one place to another.

I would not add Budapest. I would add a night to Salzburg and maybe the remaining night to Vienna, unless you take the above advice and can get to Cesky Krumlov. If you do that, you could spend one night there.

Thank you all for the advice. I do want to avoid the "if it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium" type of frantic touring -- I think it's important to be able to fully enjoy the character of each city.

Bob - I looked up your previous posts regarding the Pension Nonntal -- it looks like a great place to stay, and according to their web site, the price is within our budget.

Elaine - thank you for e-mailing me your files a few weeks ago. They have been tremendous help as we prepare for this trip.

Kristin and Bob - Cesky Krumlov definitely seems like a worthwhile stop - thank you for the recommendation.

The only change I'd make is adding 1 night in Vienna and taking 1 night away from Prague. Otherwise, sounds like a great little trip. Perhaps when in Salzburg, you could take a daytrip into the Alps by train.
