Haarlem Holland - Hotels or B&Bs

We are planning a second trip to Haarlem for 3-4 nights. Last time we stayed at Stempels and thought it was OK, but not particularly good value for money.

We learned that you dont really have to be located right in the main Square, given that Haarlem is fairly compact and we enjoy long walks in any case.

We would be greatful for any advice / other accomodation recommendations in Haarlem ?

Thank you

Chiming in that your report about Stempels matches mine. The location was super, though.

The report on Stempels though does not match mine. We found it an excellent value and agree on the superb location. Perhaps it depends on which room?

We had one of the best two rooms as I understand. It was quite large and right on the corner with several windows and a view of the church straight ahead and to the right and to the left into the shopping area. I thought it was a bit of a grumpy place, not a happy environment, overpriced and was fascinated by the broken tiles that we walked through as we came in and out of the front door over the four days we spent there. This time we don't need the superb location

Any other opinions about accommodation in or near Haarlem would be greatly appreciated. There appear to be a few options also in the nearby town of Bloemendaal. We are more than happy to take long walks and ride bicycles around the area of our ancestors. So central location is not as important as a large good bed, some space, nice area and value for money. Fodorite recommendations are usually spot on but sadly our experience of Stempels was not consistent with that.

If you want a room with ample space (and good value) you might check out Airbnb and get an apartment. Look for a place that has lots of good ratings.

I've stayed here twice - nice brother and sister run this place right near the pedestrian shopping zone and lovingly situated on a small canal.

Highly recommend it.

You could also search in nearby Heemstede or Aerdenhout, although Bloemendaal is also nice. Especially if you go by bike as well. Heemstede - Aerdenhout is on the Haarlem to Leiden - The Hague train line.

This one in Overveen/Bloemendaal:

Has a popular restaurant too.

And very close to the railway station for easy access to Amsterdam.
