Vienna in December
Hopefully coming to Vienna in December for the xmas market. Can anyone recommend a good hotel to stay in that is central to most attractions and is good value for money.
Thanks! |
What's your budget? And what's your preferred style of hotel--small, quaint; traditional, full service; modern, trendy?

We stayed in Pension Pertschy last December and found it wonderful. Very close to everything, nice roms and a terrific breakfast. However our son had a room on the street and said it was a bit noisy, so perhaps ask for one of their courtyard rooms. www.pertschy.com.

Let'say about 90-140 Euros a night for a double room (inclusive of breakfast). My preferred style of hotel is clean, cosy and friendly, if possible.
Thank'you so much. |
I agree with prior poster maryk regarding Pension Pertschy. You will be near shopping, many restaurants and public transport. It is an ideal base for your stay during this season.
The sun will be down by 4:30 pm. You will want to walk the streets near to the hotel just to look at things. Enjoy a cup of punsch at one of the many kiosks. ( without alcohol known as kinderpunsch) |
Has anyone stayed at Hotel Ibis Wien Mariahilf (Mariahilfer Gurtel 22-24) or Hotel Mercure Wien Europaplatz (Matrosengasse 6-8) or knows about the area they're in? What's the hotels like? Close to city transportation?
Thank you again for your help. |
I really liked Hotel Austria. I just posted about it last night. Click my screenname to find the post.

I have friends who often stay at the Mercure. It is acroos the street from the Westbahnhof ( main railway station) and near to a major shopping area.
Mercure is a chain of hotels probably compares to a Holiday Inn. This hotel is not in the city center, b ut convenient to subway ( U-3 and U-6 line--- U-3 takes you to center in 5-10 minutes. Fair value. I believe the Ibis you mention is in the same general area- again an OK chain. Know nothing more about it! You can fined hotels with better locations for your touring mentioned above. |
Speaking of hotels across the street from the Westbahnhof, there is Hotel Fuerstenhof. I'm considering staying there on the next trip. Anyone know anything about it?

I stayed at Hotelpension Arenberg, which is a Best Western property but is small (22 rooms, 4-star, and has that posh Vienna feel and you get the BW discounts. It is within the Ring and a 5-minute walk through a nice neighborhood to Stephensplatz. It is about a 2-3 minute walk to the U-Bahn stop. The breakfast even has home-made muslei. The other hotel is Hotel Drei Kronen, just outside the Ring, 3-star. It has a great buffet breakfast and the nearby university has several of its visiting professors stay there. An open-air market is across the street and a grocery down the street. It is a 4-minute walk to the U-Bahn and 8-10 minutes to the Opera house
