Vienna hotels using Priceline
 

Hi,

I am going to be using priceline to bid on hotels in Vienna for a trip in November. I wanted to ask for feedback from those of you who have stayed at any of the hotels that typically come up on priceline in Vienna. I would especially be thankful for deeback on the different "regions" that Priceline uses (feedback on City Center vs. South vs. West). The Vienna hotels include:

City Centre:
Intercontinental
Marriott
Sofitel
Le Meridien

South:
Renaissance Penta Hotel

West:
Renaissance Wien Hotel
Mercure Wien Europaplatz

Well,I haven't stayed in these hotels,but I'll bump your post up to the top.Have you been to tripadvisor.com to read the reviews posted there?

trip advisor is a good place to start but bear in mind that a priceline victory does not get you the best room in a category. I like the Sofitel--see my trip advisor review. Le Meriden is a well placed for transportation hotel that gets good reviews.

Hi John! Mark and I stayed at the Marriott 19 years ago on Marriott points. Though I can't provide current feedback, it was a wonderful hotel then. We had been staying in <i>zimmer frei</i> in Germany for several weeks prior to our stay at the Marriott. I can still remember the clean, crisp, soft bedsheets. The hotel is very well located. We walked to all the center city sites.

Oops, the cursor jumped over to &quot;post my reply&quot; too quickly. I think any of the City Center PL hotels listed would be fine, just based on their names. I'd definitely bid on City Centre hotels to be as close as possible to the pedestrian zone near St. Stephen's.

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback. I had checked tripadvisor, and the feedback on all hotels in City Centre seemed fine (especially given Priceline rates). Just wanted to get additional feedback on location, and it sounds like City Centre is the place to stay -- thanks so much.

Of your Cite Centre choices, the Sofitel is apparently the most common Priceline choice. If that's where you end up, drop them a note (go to the www.sofitel.com web site and select Vienna for the hotel's email) and say you would like to have a non-smoking room with a combination bath/shower. The rooms on the smoking floors can smell pretty strongly of stale smoke. They will accommodate your request if possible.

Michael at the Sofitel front desk is very helpful (tell him Mrs. Tilke sends her regards). He gives good restaurant recs and is up on all the current Vienna gossip.

I'm guessing you are least likely to get the Meridien, as it's the most sought after of your central four. The Marriott and Intercontinental are top convention hotel choices, so a big meeting may mean they aren't available. (For example, the Interconti is always solidly booked during OPEC meetings.)
