Try the Pensione Pertschy
http://www.hotels-austria.com/Vienna...r/pertschy.htm Have stayed there, as well as several other central places in recent years, and the Pertschy is hard to beat for location, price, small hotel ambience, etc. |
Pension Nossek, right on the Grabben, downtown pedestrian street near Stephansplatz. This is a simple but clean and roomy inexpensive hotel with breakfast. However, since it is in a pedestrian area, there is no parking nearby.

The Hotel de France where we stayed last week is about 10 minutes walk to St. Stephens Platz by the University - tube station Shottentor. It is at the lower end of the 5 star bracket and a highly recommendable hotel. Huge rooms, a wonderful bar and relaxing area and very polite and helpful staff. Rates vary a lot but if you use the various search engines you should find yourseld a good deal. We payed £85 per night. Let me know if you need any help.

Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth is a very nice four-star hotel, right around the corner from the Stephansdom. We liked it very much. It felt very authentic and a place the locals recommend. Very nice breakfast buffet, with hot eggs and all the trimmings, in a lovely breakfast room. Very charming. About $300/night for a family room two years ago.

The best value for money, far and away, is the Aldstadt hotel. It is a ten minute walk from the centre of town and it has the most delightful breakfast. Go to tripadvisor.com for reviews and you will see that everyone who uses the hotel loves it. Price is about 160 Euros a night.

Another vote for Pension Pertschy. Great value for the money and perfect location.

We also did the Pertschy two years ago and loved it.

Another rec for Pension Pertschy. Great value, especially given its excellent location. Nice room and a really good breakfast.

How about the Best Wester Tigra? The rooms and bath are large and excellent, the buffet breakfast couldn't be beat. For me, the best part is that the hotel is the same building where Wolfgang and Leopold Mozart stayed when as a boy he first performed in Vienna and later stayed as an adult. Imagine! It is a four star, well priced (124 Euro when I was there in December). It is on a side street in the inner ring that has no particular character but just around the corner from typical Vienna and the hall where Mozart gave his first concert. If choosing this hotel, assure that your room is in the main hotel and not the annex. None of the above applies to the annex.

I am partial to the Hotel Astoria, primarily due to its location, you can't beat it.

Two years ago we stayed in the Hotel Koenig non Ungarn, right in the shadows of St. Stephes Cathedral. It was a marvelous hotel in a perfect location. Full brkfst., ac, lots of hot water, etc. We paid 270 Euro per night for 3 adults in a two level, two bedroom, two bath "apartment". I would definitely stay there again. They have a variety of rooms available--not just "apartments". Good luck!
