Vienna hotel suggestions please
We're planning a trip to Vienna the first week of October. There are two of us travelling and budget is around 300 euros per night. We'd like:
• A central location. We don’t mind using transit, but prefer to be in a location where we can walk to many sites. • Traditional style rather than contemporary. • Breakfast included. • Larger room. It doesn't need to be enormous but we’ve stayed in rooms in Europe where there was barely enough space for our suitcases and no place to sit except on the bed. We’re hoping to avoid that. Any suggestions are appreciated! I've just started looking and I'm seeing places with no availability already. |
we had those sort of criteria too and ended up staying at the Hotel Austria, which I think ticks all your boxes:
http://www.hotelaustria-wien.at/en/ we had a comfort room which was plenty big enough [there was a table and chairs as well as the bed] and had a good size bathroom, the breakfast was good and plentiful, and it's within walking distance of the centre and of lots of public transport for getting around the rest of the city. it was also quiet and had very friendly staff and for a week in October is well within your budget! |
Thanks, annhig! I was looking at that one so it's good to get a personal recommendation.

On our last visit we stayed at the Best Western Premier Kaiserhof Wein. Great location, good breakfast, and good service. Our room wasn't the largest, but they probably have some larger. We were there for Christmas and they put a small decorated desktop tree in each room. Nice touch.

hi pat,
my only complaint was that finding it when we first got there was really difficult - we had taken the hydrofoil from Bratislava and knew that it wasn't very far away from where it docks, but could we find it? in the end I went into another hotel and asked them! It turned out that the entrance is up a short pedestrian only street which we had walked straight past. Once we knew where it was, there were no problems, and I think that the position contributed to the quietness. |
Marriott on Parkring has king/double bed rooms from 232 euros on Oct 3. Breakfast is not included but at that price you can afford to purchase it somewhere. It is a great location.

Pat:
we liked Pension Pertschy...very centrally located between St. Stephens and the Imperial Palace, also The Spanish Riding School...all within easy walking distance. Nice breakfast, ample sized rooms. Should be able to stay well within your budget. Several other Fodorites gave it a good review and that's how we found it.(Be sure to take in the amazing Hundertwasser buildings and the art gallery within the area.) (See my Vienna pix below taken on a few of my visits) |

Hope you enjoy Vienna, scroll down the page for view of Pension Pertschy courtyard and the Hundertwasser complex. Yeah, he was a slightl ywhacko architect who enjoyed walking around town stark naked. In winter?? |
Pat...don't be puzzled if you spot my two wives in these Vienna pix (Judy and Roz, at separate times!)I lost them both after 63 total years of blissful marriage. I have memories and pictures and a perpetual smile on my face!

we loved Pension Suzanne and our room was quite large. the location was so perfect.. right by the opera house, yet somehow quiet.
as i recall, the outside is not decorate--- the halls seemed modern and dorm-like -- but the rooms were classically decorated. and quite large. price was very good for such a location. |
We liked pension nossek in the graben
Good location near st Stephens Good breakfast and coffee Room was quite spacious |
Another vote for the Marriott on the Parkring for location and amenities.

I love the location of the Hotel Konig von ungarn, just behind the cathedral, very traditional. Four of us shared a duplex, the two bedrooms were average-sized.
Drop in for coffee or a drink to see the lobby/lounge, even if you stay elsewhere. Also like the Pertschy, mentioned above. http://www.kvu.at/en/ |
Loved Hotel Konig von Ungarn.
Suggested it to friends and they also had the family room. Location was perfect booking.com/vienna |
Thanks to all for the good suggestions, I will be checking them out. Hotel Konig von Ungarn was one I was interested in but unfortunately it's not available for our dates.

I seem to recall that Pension Suzanne and Pension Pertschy are owned by the same family.
