vienna hotel - about 100 euros?
 

I'm back and now am looking for a Vienna hotel for my husband and son for about 100 euros per night for 2 nights next used the searched and determined that for a short stay, they should be in the center. They are not very picky (easier to book a hotel for them than for me!), although I'm sure they would prefer having an elevator - I've about given up on A/C after looking at Vienna hotel sites. I wasn't able to pull much recent info up by searching Fodors, but I'm sure I can get some great help by asking all of you here. :) You haven't let me down yet! Thanks!

oops - I meant to say 100 DOLLARS or less (man, he really ISN'T picky - glad I'll be in Switzerland!!!), but let's not go the hostel route! Is it possible?

Pension Nossek is well located, clean, and quite inexpensive. However, under $100 for 3 might be asking too much with today's exchange rate.

My husband and I stayed at the Pension Pertschy when we were in Vienna last year. Its a great hotel in a wonderful location; right off of Graben and close to the Stephansplatz underground station. However, the prices may be a little higher than what you want.

Sorry, I accidently posted too soon. I was going to add that the prices at the Pension Pertschy start at about 97 euro for a double in off season, 117 double in main season. While its a little higher than you want, its a great price for the location and may be worth considering if you wouldn't mind raising your budget a little.

This hotel will only be for 2 people so hopefully that will help with the price.

We stayed at the Hotel Pension Franz. Ideal location (just off the Ringstrasse and very close to the Metro). Clean rooms with good view, tasty breakfast (included in price of room). The hotel is on the 3rd or 4th floor of a building but there is an elevator. A double is around 65-70E. Website is www.hotelpensionfranz.at

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be running it by my husband. Can you tell me any details about the pension? How long to walk to different historic sites or did you have to take the metro everywhere?

There were some good and poor reviews on Tripadvisor - did you have any problems there? Did they redo the carpets? (if you were there recently) How was the breakfast? Were you there in the summer and, if so, was it hot in the rooms and did they have fans?

I once stayed in Pension Dr. Geissler which has a wonderful location within the ring and very near Schwedenplatz. There is an elevator. We didn't need air conditioning in March so I didn't notice. We had a toilet on our flour but had to go down one floor for a shower. Very good breakfast and clean. We did have neighbors who smoked a great deal one night.

This will easily come within your price range.

I too read some mixed reviews but I did not find anything to complain about. The hotel is a little on the older side, but the carpets (in our room at least) were fine. Essentially simple furnishings but clean and cheap, so that made us happy. Also a very quiet hotel. No little kids running around or anything.

In terms of weather, we were there in mid-May of this year, and it was still quite chilly in Vienna so the room being hot was never an issue.

As far as proximity to sites, we found it very good. Walked everywhere (I think we took the Metro once) and it was nice to be so close to everything. We had just come from Prague where we stayed quite far from the centre and it was kind of a pain.

All in all I really liked this little hotel, and I think you will too if you are looking for somewhere cheap and clean, and don't mind that the place is not brand-new and the furniture isn't exactly mansion-worthy...
