(Vienna) Heurigers in Winter

Heading to Vienna a week from today - are the heuriger open this late in the season? I keep seeing threads about the village Grinzing but I can't tell if people go there all year round or just in the summer. Also, are any located in the city center?

Thanks!

All the Heuriger will be found outside of Wien in either Grinzing, Sievering,Nussdoerf,Gumpoldsckirken or other outlying areas. There are many who claim they are Heurige in Wien, but the real thing is outside. When we were there over New Year's most were open...you shouldn't have a problem finding ones that are open. Look to places other than Grinzing for the non-tourisy, however if you do go there Zum Martin Sepp is good. Molker, another poster here who lives there, may be able to help you more. Keep Wien center for traditional dining and good Cafes.

Oopps, make that Nussdorf, and there are also some over in Stammersdorf as well. A good wine bar in Wien center is called Immervoll, Weihburggasse 17, good daily food specials as well

Most heurigers in the " Tourist Areas"
will be open. Of course , the gardens, are closed but they have nice in-door facilites for their guests.
Operaman makes good recommendations about the less touristy areas.

Nussdorf is easy to get to using the Streetcar " D" Take it to the end station. A 100 meter walk will bring you to several very good places.
I personally think Schuebel-Auer is the best. Good wine, food and service. However most nights have no music.
www.schuebel-auer.at german only but you can see pictures and menu.

In Neustift am Walde ( streetcar #38 to bus 35A or taxi) several good places near bus stop
Among them Hauerkuchl and Fuhrgassl- Huber.

www.fuhrgassl- huber.at ( for both- parents have one, a daughter another- another daughter has a nice hotel nearby)
Hauerkuchl has table service. Fuhrgassl- Huber a buffet.

Week nights are better to visit- they can be crowded on weekends. However each has several rooms- Fuhrgassl - Huber a nice fireplace in back room.
