Vienna Flea Markets...PLEASE DON"T TELL ME THERE ARE SOME THERE TOO? There goes my back again...
 

Any help out there for my wife, the woman who loves Flea Markets, to the extent that, she will arrive at the site at 4 a.m. if need be! (Feeding me coffee intravenously) <BR> <BR>Seriously, my wife has found old tapestries, clocks, light fixtures, etc. and uses them in our house. (But, she would be quite mad if she knew I was telling you about her finds, so I must not digress!) <BR>Does Vienna or Prague offer any good markets? <BR> <BR>And what types of things me I expect to have to lug back? <BR> <BR>Many thanks from the beleaguered, broke husband.

I'd like some help on this as well. <BR>When are you going? I'd like to pick up my goodies before your wife gets them.

Okay, I assume you've arranged for a second mortgage or the sale of your oldest offspring. On those assumptions, visit the Dorotheum, the largest pawnbroking operation in the world. It's located at 1 DorotheeGasse, nearest tube station is Stephansplatz on the U1 and U3 lines. It's open from 10 to 6 Monday to Friday, 8:30 to noon Saturday. In addition to its daily sales, the Dorotheum stages major auctions of antiques quarterly. Be on your guard if one is underway, no tugging on ears or scratching of noses: you may need a third mortgage as a result. <BR> <BR>Somewhat more mundane is the Naschmarkt, open daily but dealing primarily in produce. On Saturdays, however, at its southern end there's a flea market with quality antiques and stuff that dealers are willing to bargain over. It's open from 8 to 6. It's at 6 Wienzeile; take the U-bahn to Karlsplatz.

Thanks Wes for reminding me about the Naschmarkt. I loved exploring it when we were in Vienna several years ago. Wall-to-wall shoppers from around the world with tons of interesting and exotic foods and wares. My idea of a perfect flea market. <BR> <BR>Mike, your flea market queen should have a ball there!
