Not to miss: Hofburg Palace, museums, ride on the tram (#1 or #2) around the Ring, St Stephens.
I know there are touristy dinner/concert combos at evenings at the Orangerie at Schonbrunn (?sp) though I haven't attended one myself. |
A few years ago we went to a dinner concert (Strauss
Concert), that we thoroughly enjoyed. We got the brochure at the hotel and had the concierge make the reservations. I don't recall the price. I think there are many available. have fun. Johanna |
The city of Vienna has a great web site, which will tell you when the concerts are. www.vienna.info Depends on how into classical music the teens are, but if they are concert goers, the Musikverein, where the Vienna Symphony plays is spectacular, as is the Opera House.

I also planned to attend classical concerts when I went to Vienna but hadn't booked anything in advance.
Once there, I saw lots of guys and girls dressed in mozart costumes by the opera house and on kartner stasse selling classical concert tickets. The carry these albums that contain tickets for lots of different concerts. I found a second raw ticket at a discount price and the concert was very special as it combined two orchestras playing together at once- absolutely marvelous. As for the concerts/dinners combinations, you don't actually eat as they play. You eat either before or after the concert at a dining room adjacent to the venue, which lead me to believe that the food was probably not all that special and I went with the ticket only but no dinner. Vienna is wonderful with lots of American every where. |
The Vienna Boys Choir is performing ath the Muskiverein on April 25. Not sure if they have tickets, but you could find out here:
http://www.mondial.at/english/boys.html The Vienna Symphony is playing Dvorak selections on the 26rh in the Grosser Saal of the Musikverein. This is an awesome venue. Years ago, we went at the last minute and the only tickets were behind the orchestra in Podium Left (Links), Row 4, seats 13 & 14--and they were the least expensive seats in the house (19E now). We sat next to a music professor from Basel, who told us he always gets these ticke Watching the conductor up close was amazing. I see they have those seats available for this performance (http://www.musikverein.at/konzerte/k...?idx=17137)--I think your kids would find it to be a totally unique experience. We loved it. |
Check out sung Masses on a Sunday morning. There were posters nearly everywhere inside the ring with a multitude of venues. No advanced reservations possible or needed. No admission except for what you chose to put in the collection plate.
