Vienna-->Bratislava
In Dec/Jan, we'll be staying at a home in Hall, Austria with access to a car. We'd like to visit Vienna/Bratislava and drive if we can.
It looks like there are carparks in Bratislava, but I'm wondering if it would be easier/safer to park the car in Vienna and take the train (1 hour ride) to Bratislava. Does anyone have any thoughts/commentary on which might be the better way to go? Additionally, if anyone knows of anywhere specific to leave a car in either city, I'd appreciate the feedback. Thx :) |
I vote for the train. That time of year, the weather can be iffy so I think the train would be safer.
We have stayed twice at the Hotel Admiral in Vienna because they have parking spaces available to their guests. It's a nice place with good access to the Ringstrasse, restaurants, and transportation. http://www.hotel-admiral-wien.at/admiral/en/index.php |
Thank you! I will check it out :)

Of course there are car parks in Bratislava. Part of the town is pedestrianised so you can't park there.
You can park safely on the street anyway. There are also cark parks in Vienna - or parking on the street. The drive to Bratislava is nice - as its mostly not motorway. |
I took train from Vienna last Jan and it was great.
but the hourly trains that run to a new station a few miles away from the town centre are not as convenient as the ones that go to the old intown Bratislava train station so i should have perused schedules better. |
Taking the train from Vienna may be more convenient. However, the center of Bratislava is not large and it is quite safe to park a car there. In fact, I would venture that is may even be safer to park in Bratislava over Vienna, though I don't think Vienna is particularly unsafe.
