Vienna Boys Choir
 

We are going to be in Vienna the last week of November. Would really like to see the Vienna Boys Choir. After a little researching on the net, it appears that they only are performing once in November - on the 26th. Only other performances are every Sun morning at Mass where according to what I can find - one can only hear them - not see them.
From what I can find, the only "public" performance is the 26th at 2pm. That would work out great for us, however, I have read a couple of articles that state that one can't be assurred of seeing them there either. Price per ticket is 45 Euro. Not sure I want to spend a couple of hundred dollars to get the same effect as a good CD. Anyone know anything about this? Any help and insignt would be appreciated.

Have not been to Vienna so I can't be of much help. The only insight I can offer is that even if you are only "hearing" a live choir in a cathedral, it is in no way comparable to a good CD.

This concert is at the Minoriten Church and is described on the Boys Choir website (www.wsk.at) at an Advent Concert. When I have attended a concert (as opposed to a Mass) in churches in Austria, the choir was usually at the front where you can see them.

If you live in the States the Vienna Boys Choir usually tours here and you might be able to catch a concert.

I have attended Mass in Vienna where they sing. There are only a few seats where you might be able to see them as they sing at the back of the church and the seating is along the sides in galleries. There are video monitors in each section so you can watch them on the monitors.

I would do the Mass since the joy is in hearing them. They simply stand and sing so there's not much to see.

If you do decided on the Mass I would book tickets now.

We attended a Mass with the Vienna boys choir in March and could not see the choir from where we sat, but we did enjoy the music. At the end of the mass, the Bishop called the choir to the front of the chapel, everyone applauded, and the majority of the people in the audience took photos. We've attended Mass at several European cathedrals and chapels over the years (including a number with boys choirs) and in most of those cases we only heard the choir and did not see them until they marched out at the end of the service.
