When I do laundry in Europe, I usually put stuff in the washer an hour before bedtime. Then I dry the clothes when I go to bed, and wake up in the middle of the night when they are done, and pull them out, so they don't get any more wrinkled than necessary! Unless you have about 3 or 4 hours of spare time, you'll waste precious hours of vacation time doing laundry over there.(and that's just for 1 load!)
The other option is to find a commercial laundromat with huge machines. Sometimes I'll just try to find a place like that, and I'll be completely done with my laundry in about 80 minutes. You can read a travel book & plan your next adventures while you kill time @ the laundromat. The one in Prague that I go to has interent access, so I do email while I'm there! Cool! |
Hi, Aloha:
Imagine -- At least 3 redheads in an apartment building at the same time! Perhaps we'll see each other while we are there. Happy trip planning! redheads |
Hi Operaman,
Kaminek Top 11 is available and we are thinking of booking it. If you have stayed in that one can you tell me if pullout couch is comfortable to sleep on? Or can 2 people fit on the bottom bunk bed? It looks pretty small. Thanks! |
Hello pliant;
We have stayed in the other apt at Gerichtsgasse, 11 is Ilona's new one. We used the pullout at her apt Pilzgasse and it was very comfortable. I am sure it will be more than fine...they don't use those horrible frame types we have here. Gerichtsgasse is nice and quiet and about a 10 min or less walk to the S-bahn station which will take you to Wien Mitte (Landstrasse) station. Ilona is absolutely wonderful and very helpful. Tell her that Alex and Anne from Oregon say hello. |
Hi redheads,
I am also looking for the apartment Apartment I Am Opernring and I have sent email to them to [email protected] but I still haven't heard anything from them yet. Which email address did you send to? How long did you wait until their reply? |
Hi Suchow.
Our records show that there was some trouble with the email correspondence. They were getting messages saying their email replies to us were rejected. Ultimately, we made contact with them by telephone and sorted everything out. We also did eventually get email confirmation. So, I suspect there is some kind of email problem, not a lack of responsiveness on their part. Good luck! Redheads |
We had exactly the same problem. I finally called Frau Duschel and gave her another email address (Gmail), and we communicated easily after that.

Many apartments and homes in Europe have washers but no electric dryers. Sometimes they tell you they have a dryer and it turns out to be a clothes rack.
Electricity is more expensive in Europe than it is in the US. So long as I have a washer, hanging clothes up to dry is not a big deal if there is a rack. |
Further to Suchow's post - we also applied to Familie Dischel's Apartment Am Opernring - 2 emails and a fax over 3 weeks and we received no responses. Too frustrating so we have taken our enquiries elsewhere.
