Vienna & Salzburg ?? Suggestions???

Leaving in a week. Spending 1 day in Salzburg & 2 in Vienna. What are the Must See/Must do? What should we avoid?

Good afternoon, again Carol
Have never been to Salzburg, so can not
comment on it. However can on Wien.
1. get to know the Stephansdom area,
the inner ring, the Kartnerstrasse and
Graben. Excellant shopping areas.
2. Places to see and not miss are the
Stephensdom, Statsoper, Musikverein,
(check if they have an evenings program)
3. Visit Schonbrunnen, take a guided
tour is one is available...
4. Spend an evening at a Heuriger in
Grinzing, they have very good food, more
than sufficent wine and perhaps best is
reachable by street car from the inner
ring.
Check with your hotels concierge for
recommendations and the street car
number.
Found these some very enjoyable evenings..
There is an excellant ristorante in
the basement of the Rathaus, the Rathauskeller...
Enjoy Wien, Richard of La Grange Park, Ill...

Carol - I was in both Salzburg and Vienna last year, and LOOOOOOVED Salzburg. I don't even know which in particular to tell you since you only have a day, but some highlights in the city: we went to an evening classical music performance in the fortress above the city which was just incredible.. we also took day trip to Salzkamagut which included a ferry ride on the Lake, and that it was really amazing. We had only planned on two days in Salzburg and stayed for four we loved it so much!
You can pretty much walk all over Salzburg and see a good chunk of it (most of our travel in Vienna involved the subway...)

Carol,

In Salzburg, I would definitely recommend going to the fortress. The view is like none other I have ever seen. Two days in Vienna is not long, I'd do some research and focus on the things that YOU would be interested in. Personally, I found the Schonbrunn Palace interesting - especially the grounds.

Have fun and don't wear yourselves out trying to see everything.

I agree with above postings. Salzburg is one of the most charming towns in Europe, well worth a visit. The view from the castle is absolutly great. Have a great trip.

Depending on your other activities, you might want to take the trip up the Untersberg near Salzburg for a 'cable car up the mountain' trip

Hi Carol,
I just returned from both of these cities and had a wonderful time. I'm sure you will too.
The others have given great advise. I know it sounds corny, but I had a great time on the Sound of Music tour.
Both Salzburg and Vienna are beautiful. Salzburg is very charming and Vienna is very grand. Schonbrunn palace is a must-see in my opinion and so is the Spanish Riding School. Have a great trip!
