Vienna and Prague
 

Hello, we have never been to Vienna or Prague. We will have 5 days free before visiting our daughter who will be studying abroad. Here are our 3 thoughts:

1. 3 nights in Vienna, with a one day trip to Salzburg, then 2 nights in Prague
2. 3 nights in Vienna, forget the day trip to Salzburg because there's too much to see in Vienna (but I am a HUGE Sound of Music fan), then 2 nights in Prague
3. 5 nights in Vienna, do my day trip to Salzburg, and forget about Prague and save that for another trip.

After these 5 nights, we will be spending 2 nights in the Netherlands with our daughter and then traveling with her to Amsterdam for 3 nights.

I really appreciate the advice!

Much as I love Prague I would do 3 nights in Vienna and 2 in Salzburg - that is plenty to cover in so little time - and on the way to Amsterdam.

I would leave Prague for another trip.

Being a huge SOM fan, I would spend the 5 nights in Vienna with a day trip or overnight to Salzburg, saving Prague for another visit. Our first visit to Vienna was for 6 nights; we used one full day for Salzburg and wished we had stayed overnight. I am a SOM fan so we took a tour, but missed having time just to enjoy Salzburg. With 5 nights, you'll even have time for a day trip outside of Vienna if the Imperial-ness of the city becomes overwhelming.
