Vienna 2nd. District
I am staying Hotel Mercure in Vienna"s 2nd dist. Is this a good location of the city, close to the main attractions?
thanks |
I believe you already asked these same questions several months ago.
I think that the mercure has two hotels in the second district.Less than 1 Kilometer from main attractions. You can walk or take tram. City does have better locations. |
You might get better responses if you avoided the use of the "district" lable and said what the hotel is located near. There are a lot of people who don't know which district is which but they do know about various landmarks...but perhaps your hotel isn't near anything that memorable.

I am staying at the Mercure Nestroy Wien hotel.
|
This hotel is near the 'Nestroyplatz' U=bahn station, which is just north of and 1 stop from Schwedenplatz (where the airport bus drops you off) and 2 stops from Stephansplatz. I can't tell you much about the area, but the U-bahn bearings alone suggest your hotel is reasonably convenient. You will be just outside the 'ring' which is where most of the 'tourist stuff' is located.

This hotel is not really on Nestroyplatz, but some distance away. Nearest transportation is probably tram line 21 on Taborstrasse. Neighborhood is only Ok
I would suggest you learn a little more about hotels and locations before booking. They have a web site - www.mercure.at that describes this and other hotels in the chain. It would be 3-4 stars. Some confusion may exists about the Vienna districts as posted previously. Everyone in Vienna refers to districts when giving directions or the location of something. Vienna has 23 districts - with the first( 1 - the Innenstadt where you find most tourists sites )in the middle the others are laid out in circles or spokes around the 1st. The address and postal code provide thiis. Thus the above mentione mercure hotel has an address Rotensterngasse 12 A-1020 Vienna The 1020 is the postal code giving the district 02 the 9th district is 1090. etc. It helps taxi drivers ,deliveries, and locals looking for something. Tourists often do not pronounce names in a way completely understandable tö the local population. Having the district number often helps unravel this problem and allows one to give proper directions. |
