FIRST VISIT. NIGHT LIFE. DO YOU JUST WALK THE CITY OR DO YOU WALTZING? WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A 2 DAY VISIT? ANY TIPS ON TOP-NOTCH RESTUARANTS?

Good evening, Ray <BR>First for a night out would consider <BR>going to a heuringer in Grinzing, good food, good wine and good company can <BR>all be found here. It is totally reachable by tram from all parts of the <BR>city, also you don't have to drive home.. <BR>For the second night would pick if at <BR>all possible is a performance at the Oper or the Musikverein, you can usually get tickets from the boxoffice or the <BR>Amerx office on the Kartnerstrasse. <BR>Ristorantes, the Rathauskeller in the <BR>Rathaus and the Donerbrunner in the <BR>Europa Hotel, in both instances save <BR>for dessert and coffee at the Sacher. <BR>Richard of La Grange Park, Il... <BR>

Ray, <BR>Grinzing, a village suburb of Vienna, is accessible via the 38A bus. The village is comprised almost entirely of wine bars (heuringen) where at about five in the evening musicians will appear and play waltzes and polkas into the wee hours. Incongruously, at the far end of the main street, you'll find a Hooters bar and grill! <BR> <BR>For high quality, and costly, Viennese cuisine, consider the Altwienerhof restaurant. A six course gourmet meal,including wines between courses will put you back at least $100.00 American. <BR>The restaurant was recently featured in the travel section of the New York Times. It's located in the family run Altwienerhof hotel, a reasonably priced hotel despite the exhorbitant cost of dining there.

You can certainly find nightlife (as in bars) by walking the streets. Stephansplatz is a good place to start as it is bustling well into the night. <BR>For top notch restaurants: <BR>"Do & Co." overlooks St. Stephans from high atop a building on the square (not sure which bldg. but I know Fodors has a review on this site). <BR>Both resaurants located in the Hotel Sacher are also excellent: "The Anna Sacher," and the "Rote Bar." The Sacher is in every guidebook (if for no other reason than it's namesake torte) and is located opposite the operahouse. <BR>What to do on a 2 day visit? With so little time I wouldn't spend a lot in museums and churches, but the Imperial Palace, Schonbrunn Palace, and St. Stephans should not really be missed. <BR>Have a good trip; it's a beautiful city. <BR>j.

restaurant do and co. superb. ate there last summer and loved it. <BR>enjoyed the bristol hotel as well.

I would HIGHLY recommend getting your opera tickets in advance, as they do generally sell out.

For something really unique, go to Jazz World, in the Bermuda Triangle area of the city. Jazz World is a tiny, smoky, brick walled jazz bar, where some of the world's best jazz artists perform when in Vienna!
