video camera?

do you take a video camera with you on your trip? would love to document the adventure, but a little nervous about taking it everywhere and not only not been bogged down with it but getting it stolen or even being able to take it in to churches/museums? advice from experienced travelers appreciated!

I only do still photography but have friends who take their videocam with them. Just be sure it is a really tiny one - the pocket kind - otherwise it gets really heavy. there are many places in museums and churches where you can't photo or video - but they will all be posted.

I always carry my digital video camera. I have a JVC that is small enough to fit in jacket and coat pockets. Otherwise, it fits in a case on my belt.

I agree, anything larger can be bothersome. I recently took my camera on a boat charter in Greece with some old school buddies. I put together a movie after many hours at the computer that I sent to them. From their responses I believe an Oscar or two were due. We have laughed as much about the video as the trip itself. If you take the time to do something with video to make the video itself more interesting using some of the simple to use software available then a video camera is a great accessory on any trip.

Hi shle,

Almost everyon will let you use your cam if you don't use ligts or a tripod.

There will be signs at the entrance.

On another thread, someone mentioned that US recorders are not compatible with European systems, so thieves are less likely to target Americans.

shle:

Why did you post the same question twice?

Here is your other thread. My guess is you posted twice on the same topic because you could not find the earlier of your threads.

The easiest way to do this is to log into this forum, then click on your username in the upper left corner of the screen.

We brought our video camera and used it extensively. Since my husband carries his camera bag, I bring along a tote bag with my guide books and put the video camera bag in the tote bag. This worked very nicely.

But many of the churches and museums had very explicit signs that photos, with our without flash, and no videos were allowed. Most people respect the request but, eedless to say, there were folks pretending to not see the signs and took photos anyway...something we just will not do.
