LoveItaly, your neighbor's reaction sounds just like my husband's reacton many years ago when I made it for the very first time. As I said, I have only made it a few times in 35 years since it's something you just can't eat every day.

Hi everyone,
I am so overwhelmed at all the comments! I promise to take many many pictures and write a looonnngg trip report

Also... this may be of interest... I actually married a Longhorn (gasp!!). We truck out our "House Divided" welcome mat every Friday after Thanksgiving and set up camp on opposite sides of the living room ;-)

Anyway, happy Saturday everyone and thanks again!

-Jill (class of 2002)

I have to tell you about a Texas Aggie who rode on the plane next to me a few years ago. When he took his seat, I observed that he was a bit different. Later in the flight, since he had said nothing, I started the conversation by saying, "I notice you went to Texas A&M." Surprised and pleased, he responded, "How did you know?"

"It was easy," I replied. "I noticed your graduation ring when you were picking your nose."

No offense, Aggie. I just love that joke, and I didn't even go to UT.

TexasAggie, here's a true story that I think is funnier than any Aggie joke I've ever heard. If anyone reading this is not from Texas, please stop reading now because the following will make no sense.

Back when I was at UT we had a professor that had just moved here from Switzerland. He acknowledged that students will get bored in class and stop listening. He went on to say that when too many students were daydreaming, he would stop the class and call on someone to tell a joke. Therefore, our first assignment was to have a clean joke ready to tell in case we are called upon.

One day it was joke time, so he pointed to a student to tell a joke. They guy said, "Once there was this Aggie," and the Swiss professor jumped in and said, "Wait a minute, what's an Aggie?" The class roared with laughter, and that was funnier than any joke that was told all semester.

Have a good trip, I look forward to your report and pics.

As someone who lives in the land of DFW and the AA hub, I love to hear AA victories!!!

Whoohoo and have a great trip! Hope we might see you at an upcoming Texas GTG! Last one I attended was in Grapevine, TX...Did you go to the one in Houston, by chance? I don't think there were reports from either...

Hi Lutece,
I've lived just north of Denver, CO for a couple years now so I've sadly been unable to go to any of the Fodors get togethers back in Texas. I was actually raised in Dallas so I too am a fan of DFW since it is one of the only airports where I really know how to get everywhere and fast!
Perhaps I'll have to plan my next visit back to Dallas to coincide with the Texas GTG

Hi, Lutece. You and I met at the GTG in Grapevine. I went the GTG in Houston and more recently the GTG in San Antonio. I don't think anyone posted a report from the Houston GTG, but it was great fun.

If you happen to be in Austin on 9/17, we're having a small GTG at the Hula Hut around 2pm. Everyone is welcome.

Have a great trip!

FYI, award booking on www.aa.com is only possible when the entire itn is on AA metal. Anytime a partner (OW or AAdvantage) is involved, it's necessary to call the AAdvantage reservation or your status desk.

In your case , AA does not fly to Athens, so calling was the only option.

There are some rumors going around that www.aa.com is working on implementing partner award booking on line, but I would not hold my breath just yet.

Very excited for you. I was booking with FFM to Amsterdam April 18-26 with Northwest about the same time you were trying to do the same with your flight to Athens. Tried over the internet. Just would not work. Finally called and the reservationist did not charge me the fee except for $85.06-50,000 miles. Now the next thing is to look for a paid ticket for my daughter cheaper than the $900.00 one. Hopefully if we wait it will be there cheaper. Anyone find one out of CLT thru Detroit for a cheaper fee let me know.
Enjoyed your post of your trip to Italy.
It is so esxciting to finally get to a place you have wanted to visit-mine has been Amsterdam at tulip season. I have not been to Greece yet,but hope to make that one someday.

I pays to keep trying. It use to be that the airlines put all their available FF seats in at one time and once they were gone that was it. Now they put some in and if the flights are still open then they will add more at a later date. The probleme arises when you try to use a co-shared airline. They may or may not put FF seats in once the seats are open for sale ( usually 331 days before departure).Keep checking even if you get some seats which are not ideal you can keep checking to improve the routing.
