Hi

I'm in a little bit of a dilemna...
I'm about to move abroad and need to pack alot of things with me. I'd also however would love to use a bag that's versatile for frequent travelling.
My main concern is weight and size at the moment due to baggae allowance esp. for international travels.

I'm a little undecisive whether to go for a Victorinox 27" or a 24".
Ive checked out both of them in the store..

I am smitten by the 27" for the space and thought of packing clothes (winter coats etc). Sale assistant also was egging me on to go for the large as the weight of both empty does not make much difference.

The 24" didn't look as much inviting, (obviously not as big as the 27") however I do like the expanding feature... and could take it on for smaller trips.

so I don't know whether I should settle with 1 large 27" (half empty) or a 24" + a small daffle bag (fully stuffed).

I can do allowances up to 30 kilos...

Would appreciate any helpful comments :)

I do not like that brand because it is too heavy (empty) imo.

My suggestion is to ship a couple boxes ahead, then pack as for a normal trip. Any 24" expandable that is light-weight will serve you well.

the 27" may not be much heavier but it's going to be a PITA anytime you take it anywhere - unless you are going to taxi it from home to airport to hotel

I was just looking at luggage today and found the Victorinox to be quite heavy compared to other brands.

I agree w/ the others - I find Victorinox to be way too heavy.

And I would get smaller rather than larger for sure - no matter which brand. A 27 incher willl be hell to schlep on/off trains and buses if you tour around. I usually use a 19 inch bag, or sometimes a 21 incher. But if you really ,REALLY want a larger bag - 24 is the largest I would personally use.

I have about 8 pieces of the original Victorinox luggage and can see where people might find it heavy compared to many others. I do not however see it as much of a problem as the extra 2 lbs or so when the luggage is filled works out to less than a 10% difference in the total weight. They do seeem to be fairly sturdy as mine have been on about 70 flights and many trains, taxi's etc over the last 7 years and they all still look pretty good. Go with the 24". My wife uses the 24" as it is the smallest I can get her to use.

You've obviously never travelled on Low Coasts Airlines where 2lbs is a significant part of your luggage allowance

We do sometimes fly low cost airlines but as we travel light weight has never been a problem.

I saw on another thread she already decide on and purchased the 24" Victorinox.

I still say that brand is needlessly heavy ;-)

Victorinox had three (I think) lines of luggage.
I've got a couple of their pieces - a 22 Inch, which I find useless. Also, I have a 24 inch, which I think is nearly perfect, and a 27 inch, which, like you, appeals to me. The 27 inch, I'm afraid, will tip the scales beyond the allowed limit unless you're very, very careful packing.
Personally, though they may be a bit heavier than my wife's Delsey, I don't think they are that heavy (when empty, I mean). And I think they are strudier than the Delsey bags (and a few other brands we have used.) But I think the Delsey 25 inch, is really ideal. Slightly lighter than the 24 in Victorinox, but offers a little more room. (Once again, Delsey has MANY lines of luggage.)

First of all... thank you all for your individual responses.. I'm usually not this undecisive when it comes to shopping however your comments did help me decide and I am glad that I chose the 24" instead of the 27"!

In term of weight.. it is perhaps slightly heavier compared to other luggages... however the sturdiness makes up for that. I bought the Victorinox Werks Traveler 2.0... wouldn't recommend the Mobilizer NXT 3.0 as its heavy ...the global tracking device also seems gimmicky (a nice concept but not too sure if it's functional).

I was slightly dissapointed that it did not come with free locks.
Other than that.. it felt really good strolling home... the wheels glide very nicely and I love the handle! With the lifetime warranty I'm sure that will come in handy....

The colour red also goes with my red shoes.. so it's all good ;)
